Has anyone noticed that the linebackers (and sometimes safties) usually run up to the line of scrimmage, engage blockers, peek (or at least try to peek) into the backfield, and fail to get off the block until the ballcarrier has run by them?
Smart money says that they are being coached to do this. Schiano said in an interview that "there are a lot of advantages" to linebackers playing close to the line of scrimmage. Assuming this is generally true, the technique has proved to be an utter disaster this year. So why do they keep doing it? It evokes the saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
