CLARITY

In advance of ESPN's CFP Rankings Show on Tuesday night, we have the power of clarity and the digital pulpit, from which to hold ESPN and its committee accountable or... prove ESPN/The Committee comprise a kangaroo court, that must be abolished and replaced by a national championship playoff, based on the Power 5 conference championship models.

After all, the Power 5 conference championships work, because 1.) The teams do the playing and 2.) Tie-breakers are in place, to help sort things out.

"Eye-Test" With Blinders On

The Committee refreshes its judgment each week, supposedly. Well, in light of yesterday's events, did Alabama look the part of the #1 team? No. Did Clemson look the part of the #2 team? No. Notre Dame must be #1 on Tuesday night.

Unlike Alabama and Clemson (both ESPN/Disney brands which are ADVERTISED as the two best teams in college football) Notre Dame actually went on the road to a so-called neutral site (Sorry: Simple geography confirms Syracuse's proximity to Yankee Stadium is much closer than ND's).

Unlike Alabama and Clemson (both ESPN/Disney brands which are ADVERTISED as the two best teams in college football) Notre Dame actually played a Power 5 team ranked #12, by...The Committee!

Unlike Alabama and Clemson (both ESPN/Disney brands which are ADVERTISED as the two best teams in college football) Notre Dame actually DOMINATED a Power 5 team ranked #12 by...The Committee, throughout that entire game.

Alabama struggled with...Citadel...a 4-5...5th-in-the-FCS South (?!!!?) for one half! AT HOME!

Clemson struggled with a 7-4, 4th-in-the-ACC-Coastal-Division Duke, for one half! AT HOME!

Notre Dame NEVER struggled with #12 Syracuse, on the road.

The proof is in the following box scores:

Champs Don't Need No Committee

As for how The Committee will rank Ohio State, look to last week. Ohio State visited East Lansing and defeated a Michigan State team ranked 18th by...The Committee, 26-6.

Yet, Ohio State remained 10th!

Did The Committee express buyer's remorse for ranking Sparty #18, by keeping Ohio State at #10 and for BEATING them 26-6?!!?

So, in the wake of Ohio State's having gone on the road and defeated an UNranked Maryland 52-51 in OT, what is THE COMMITTEE going to do NOW?!!?

You drop Ohio State, right...Committee? Besides, ESPN will remind you, despite Gameday being in Columbus, The Game will be aired by FOX. ESPN can't boost a competitor's ratings, right?

Don't even get me started on how a two-loss LSU should EVER be ranked above any 1-loss team from a Power 5 conference. That is boldface proof ESPN is looking out for the SEC. Do we expect The Committee to treat West Virginia like LSU?

Again, The Committee is proven, UNnecessary...and hypocritical.

None of the conference championships requires a committee. Teams settle it on the field, with the aid of tie-breakers! So, too, can the national championship.

Just convene a meeting of The Power 5 athletic directors, in the off-season. I'd give that meeting (I'll be generous) eight hours, with an hour for lunch. We would have a system which yields undisputed results, like the conference championships.

But...ESPN is making a TV show.
