Note: I posted this as a comment on Kevin's 22nd Anniversary of Corso's first pick story. I just felt like some of you may have interest, and may not catch it in the comments!
Personally, I get excited whenever Corso picks the Buckeyes, and I get equally excited whenever he picks against them! Now I know why!
I compiled some numbers, using the database at gamedaycole.com (and adding last week's pick myself since it's not there yet).
According to the site, Corso is correct 65% of the time, but it hasn't been updated with last Saturday's pick yet, so it will drop slightly.
Lee Corso has made a headgear pick 40 times in games that involved the Buckeyes.
Corso has put on the mighty head of Brutus 27 times, choosing to don the headgear of some other loser 13 times. Corso picks the Buckeyes 67.5% of the time.
The Buckeyes have a 19-8 record when picked by Corso (70.4% winning percentage)... meaning he's right 70.4% of the time when picking the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes are 8-5 when Corso picks against them (61.5% winning percentage)... meaning he's only right 38.5% of the time when picking against the good guys.
Ohio State vs. Iowa: Corso is 1-0 when picking the Buckeyes and 0-2 when picking the Hawkeyes.
Ohio State vs. Michigan State: Corso is 1-2 when picking the Buckeyes and 0-1 when picking Sparty for an overall 1-3 record in this matchup.
Ohio State vs. Penn State (not our rival) is the most picked game by Corso with the Buckeyes, including his first ever pick and his most recent pick. Corso has picked this non-rivalry nine times now. Amazingly, this past Saturday was the first time he picked against the Buckeyes. I assume he'll learn his lesson from that one. Corso is 6-2 when picking the Buckeyes, and now 0-1 when picking against them.
Other conference foes have included Wisconsin (twice), Purdue, Northwestern, and Indiana: Corso is a perfect 5-0 in these games, with the Buckeyes winning 4 of them (lost to Wisconsin in 2010, Corso picked the Badgers).
Non-Conference matchups tend to be a toss-up for Corso. Corso has made 14 picks in non-conference matchups featuring the Buckeyes. He is batting exactly .500 with a 7-7 record. Even more interesting is the fact that Corso is 4-4 when picking the Buckeyes and 3-3 when picking the other guys.
Nope, I didn't forget TTUN.
Ohio State vs. TTUN: Corso is 3-0 when picking the Bucks and 1-1 when picking against the Buckeyes.
