I like to watch the games again on Youtube during the week to see if I catch anything interesting. Watching the Tulane Game I caught this play where the Buckeyes give up a 1st down completion but it could have been way worse. I am sure Penn State's coaches noticed this, so I hope Schiano/Grinch did as well.
The inside/slot receiver on the wide/top side goes in motion, QB fakes/reads inside hand off and looks like he could run into the boundary/near side if he chooses, but he pulls it and looks for a receiver.
First of all, I believe this was an RPO but might just be traditional PA.
Next, Fuller is either blitzing or trying to fill an empty run gap (playing field/top safety).
With that being pointed out, Pryor is immediately down hill into the boundary alley at the snap, with the LBs coming down and flowing that way too. Arnette at corner also abandons his receiver early.
Notice the Tulane boundary receiver #5, he runs right passed Arnette and Pryor, if the QB sees him its a very easy 6 points
Was Arnette supposed to run with his WR and play man with no safety help? Did Pryor come down too hard too early? Was Fuller supposed to take deep Center and came down to hard into a run lane? Was it a blitz call?
Can someone explain to me whether this was a poor play call by Schiano/Grinch or 1 or 2 players really screwed the pooch?
