From across the country and overseas...Aloha.

Let's start in the Heartland in Columbus, Ohio where Ohio State has destroyed two once proud, legendary "Power 5" football programs– Oregon State 77-31 and Rutgers 52-3.  (Well osu did have a Heisman winner in 1965, and Rutgers did play in the first college game versus Princeton in 1869.)

It's hard to dissect such lopsided contests to come up with a diagnosis of problem areas, but this analytical doctor sees that the defensive lapses were stitched up in the intervening week as the opposing points scored went down from 31 to 3, and the yards allowed plunged from 392 to 134.

But at the same time, the running game of the Buckeyes declined from 375 yards rushing to 225.  So it looks like the offensive linemen along with the running backs will go to the operating table for minor surgery this coming week before TCU.

Speaking of which, TCU of the DFW metro area likes to claim they play away games.  Right. Last weekend the Texas Christians of Ft. Worth, Texas traveled away to play the Southern Methodists of Dallas, Texas.  The two colleges are a 40-minute drive apart on opposite ends of town.  And this coming weekend, TCU will be making a journey to a "neutral site" to play OSU at AT&T Stadium aka Jerry's World located in Arlington, Texas, a grueling 20-minute drive away.  Hopefully their players don't get TB sitting so long on a bus.

Few programs truly have a shot at the CFP playoffs and it's becoming more exclusive, limited to a handful of elite "Power 5" teams year in and year out. Alabama has been to all 4 playoffs and won twice, Clemson has been in 3 playoffs, and Ohio State and Oklahoma have each gone twice.

Currently the non-"Power 5" aka the Group of 5 groupies are automatically excluded from the CFP, even though they are stronger than many "Power 5" teams.

Is Oregon State aka osu in the Pac-12 really a "Power 5" team after losing 11 games last year and then giving up 11 touchdowns to OSU this year?  How about powerhouse teams like Kansas in the Big-12?  Or Purdue and Rutgers in the Big Ten? Or North Carolina of the ACC?

And then how many Groupies are beating the "Power 5" this year?

Eastern Michigan beat Purdue 20-19 at Purdue
Houston crushed Arizona 45-18 after BYU (4-9) beat them 28-23
South Florida beat Georgia Tech 49-38
East Carolina smashed North Carolina 41-19
Colorado State beat Arkansas of the mighty SEC 34-27
Cincinnati beat UCLA 26-17 in the Rose Bowl
Nicholls State beat Kansas 26-23, Nicholls State? Where's that?

Isn't it about time that fairness (and the American way) prevailed and all 128 Division I teams aka FBS teams (whatever the heck FBS means) had a shot in an 8-team playoff?  And really what could be dumber than 5 "Power 5" champs playing for just 4 playoff spots?

Aloha 11W.
