This year, tOSU wraps up a two-year home-and-home series with Virginia Tech. That game will be played two weeks from tonight in Blacksburg, VA and this alone is big enough news to be a story of it's own but I digress...

Martin Jarmond, tOSU’s executive associate athletic director, is charged by athletic director Gene Smith to maintain the football schedule. In the years to come, OSU and Jarmond have a who’s who of college football scheduled to come through Ohio Stadium.

In the years to come, Ohio State has similar series set up with Oklahoma (2016-17), TCU (2018-19), Oregon (2020-21), Notre Dame (2022-23), Texas (2022-23) and Boston College (2023-24). There is also a single home game with Oregon State in 2018.

Jarmond was asked what kind of influence head coach Urban Meyer has on the scheduling process.

“Gene and I meet with Coach Meyer but he doesn’t really have that much involvement at all,” Jarmond said. “He might share what he thinks or if there are programs out there he thinks would be good to match up with. But he has other things to focus on. He lets us run with it. We engage him every once in a while.

For a quick glimpse of what we can expect in years to come, here's what the future has scheduled for tOSU.

Below is a year-by-year look at upcoming Ohio State football schedules.

Future Ohio State Football Schedules

2015 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 7, at Virginia Tech, 8 p.m. (ESPN); Sept. 12, Hawaii, 3:30 p.m. (Big Ten Network)
Sept. 19, Northern Illinois, 3:30 p.m. (ABC or ESPN2); Sept. 26, Western Michigan; Oct. 3, at Indiana;
Oct. 10, Maryland, noon; Oct. 17, Penn State, 8 p.m. (ABC, ESPN or ESPN2); Oct. 24, at Rutgers, 8 p.m. (ABC, ESPN or ESPN2); Oct. 31, Off; Nov. 7, Minnesota, 7 or 8 p.m. (ABC, ESPN or ESPN2); Nov. 14, at Illinois; Nov. 21, Michigan State; Nov. 28, at Michigan; Dec. 5, Big Ten Championship Game (at Indianapolis), 8:17 p.m. (FOX).

* The Skinny – This is the last year Ohio State plays eight Big Ten games and four nonconference games. The opener is at Virginia Tech, a school that handed OSU a 35-21 defeat in the schools’ first-ever meeting last September. It is OSU’s first true road season opener since a 1998 win at West Virginia. (OSU opened last season against Navy in Baltimore.)

The games with Hawaii and Western Michigan will be the first meetings ever for OSU with those schools. OSU played Northern Illinois once previously in 2006 (35-12 home win for OSU).

2016 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 3, Bowling Green; Sept. 10, Tulsa; Sept. 17, at Oklahoma; Sept. 24, Off; Oct. 1, Rutgers; Oct. 8, Indiana; Oct. 15, at Wisconsin; Oct. 22, at Penn State; Oct. 29, Northwestern; Nov. 5, Nebraska; Nov. 12, at Maryland; Nov. 19, at Michigan State; Nov. 26, Michigan; Dec. 3, Big Ten Championship Game (at Indianapolis).

* The Skinny – This will be the first season for the new nine-game conference schedule. That includes six division games and three crossover games (Wisconsin, Northwestern and Nebraska).

OSU is 4-0 all-time against Bowling Green with the last meeting in 2006 (35-7 home win). This will be OSU’s first-ever meeting with Tulsa. This would be OSU’s second-ever visit to Oklahoma and just third game ever between the schools. OU won in Columbus in 1977 (29-28) and OSU knocked off then-No. 2 Oklahoma in Norman in 1983 (24-14). That will almost assuredly be a prime time game.

The road schedule seems quite daunting with games at Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Penn State, Maryland and Michigan State.

2017 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 2, at Indiana; Sept. 9, TBA; Sept. 16, Oklahoma; Sept. 23, UNLV; Sept. 30, at Rutgers; Oct. 7, Maryland; Oct. 14, at Nebraska; Oct. 21, Off; Oct. 28, Penn State; Nov. 4, at Iowa; Nov. 11, Michigan State; Nov. 18, Illinois; Nov. 25, at Michigan; Dec. 2, Big Ten Championship Game (at Indianapolis).

* The Skinny – Ohio State opens the season with a Big Ten road game at Indiana. The Big Ten is asking its member schools to play more conference games in September. OSU last opened the season against a Big Ten team in 1976 at home against Michigan State. The last Big Ten road season opener for OSU was in 1975 at Michigan State.

The Oklahoma game will be the second of a home-and-home series. The visit by UNLV will be the schools’ first-ever meeting. It replaced a road game at North Carolina. The UNC home-and-home was canceled after the Big Ten moved to nine conference games. There is one open date left in 2017.

“I am working through that (opening),” Jarmond said. “Hopefully something will be coming up on that shortly.”

2018 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 1, Oregon State; Sept. 8, Rutgers; Sept. 15, at TCU; Sept. 22, TBA; Sept. 29, at Penn State; Oct. 6, Indiana; Oct. 13, Minnesota; Oct. 20, at Purdue; Oct. 27, Off ; Nov. 3, Nebraska; Nov. 10, at Michigan State; Nov. 17, at Maryland; Nov. 24, Michigan; Dec. 1, Big Ten Championship Game (at Indianapolis).

* The Skinny – Ohio State has a contract for a single home game with Oregon State from the Pac-12. OSU is 2-0 all-time vs. Oregon State with home wins in 1974 and 1984. Gary Andersen moved from Wisconsin to become the head coach at Oregon State after his Badgers dropped the 2014 Big Ten title game to the Buckeyes.

The game at TCU will renew a rivalry where OSU has a 4-1-1 edge. All six previous games were in Columbus with the last game in 1973 (OSU 37-3 win). This will be the first of a two-year home-and-home. Jarmond said he is working on one more game to finalize the 2018 schedule.

2019 Season

* Schedule – Aug. 31, TBA; Sept. 7, Cincinnati; Sept. 14, at Indiana; Sept. 21, TCU; Sept. 28, at Nebraska; Oct. 5, Michigan State; Oct. 12, Off; Oct. 19, at Northwestern; Oct. 26, Wisconsin; Nov. 2, Off;
Nov. 9, Maryland; Nov. 16, at Rutgers; Nov. 23, Penn State; Nov. 30, at Michigan; Dec. 7, Big Ten Championship Game (at Indianapolis).

* The Skinny – OSU is looking home game opponent to open the 2019 season. The Buckeyes will host Cincinnati. OSU is 14-2 all-time against UC with the last meeting in 2014 (50-28 OSU win). OSU will also make its first-ever trip to Fort Worth to play TCU.

2020 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 12, at Oregon.

* The Skinny – The Big Ten has not yet announced conference schedules beyond 2019. OSU has one marquee game lined up at Oregon. The Buckeyes moved to 9-0 all-time against the Ducks with their 42-20 win in the first-ever CFB Playoff national title game in January in Texas. OSU visited Oregon once before for the dedication game at Autzen Stadium in 1967 (30-0 OSU win).

2021 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 11, Oregon.

* The Skinny – OSU is 5-0 all-time at home against Oregon with the last visit by the Ducks in 1987 (24-14 OSU win).

2022 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 3, Notre Dame; Sept. 17, at Texas.

* The Skinny – The Buckeyes will play two of the biggest brand names in the sport by hosting Notre Dame and visiting Texas. OSU leads the all-time series with ND 3-2. The Fighting Irish won the first two meetings in 1935-36. OSU then swept a home-and-home series in 1995-96 before rolling to 34-20 win in the 2006 Fiesta Bowl.

OSU is 1-2 all-time against Texas. The Longhorns won the first meeting in Columbus in 2005 (25-22). The Buckeyes returned the favor the following year in Austin in a one-versus-two game (24-7). Texas then won the rubber match at the 2009 Fiesta Bowl (24-21).

2023 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 9, Boston College; Sept. 16, Texas; Sept. 23, at Notre Dame.

* The Skinny – If this schedule stands, OSU would play all three of its nonconference games and all 12 of its regular season games against teams from power five conferences or top independent Notre Dame.

OSU should have five Big Ten road games. Adding the game at Notre Dame, that means this season could have only six home games – one below the typical quota.

OSU is 3-0 all-time against Boston College, sweeping a home-and-home series in 1989-90 and winning the 1995 Kickoff Classic in New Jersey (38-6).

2024 Season

* Schedule – Sept. 2, at Boston College.

* The Skinny – OSU’s only previous trip to Chestnut Hill was in 1990 (31-10 OSU win).

Enjoy!
