I would imagine that the Hokie coaches who do recruiting were pulling big time for the Buckeyes in the playoffs.
The recruiting spin for their 7-6 season would go like this...
"We did have a disappointing 7-6 season, but 5 of 6 losses were by 7 points or less and 5 of 6 losses were to Bowl teams. The good news is, we beat our in state rival Virginia, we scored a 16 point victory in The Military Bowl, and we went 2-0 against ranked teams, including a victory against The National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. They are a team that will surely be ranked #1 and will have all eyes of college football nation on them as they open the season against us here at Lane Stadium."
