As usual, Holtz advocated for the cause of true redblooded Americans (which those separatist SEC lovers are not). On 'The Final Verdict', councilman Holtz argued that 8 teams is the ideal playoff number with each Power-5 Conference representing their champion plus 3 'at-large' teams selected. This gives teams like Marshall currently or a Boise State from the past given a legit shot to play for all the marbles. 

As Lou Holtz also stated, it gives teams motivation to schedule a stronger non-conference slate (talkin' to you SEC) which will make College Football more exciting in the regular season and prepare teams better for the post-season. It also means if you don't win your conference, maybe a good non-con win earlier in the season can help get you an at-large bid.

As usual Mark May was his usual cocksuckin' self with his dissent. He'd rather keep it at 4 teams so some conference champs don't even get a spot while SEC can potentially get multiple teams in.
