It has been reported that St. John's will replace UCLA in the CBS Sports Classic which began in 2014. UNC, Kentucky, Ohio State, and UCLA have been involved in the last 11 seasons, aside from Covid interrupptions. With UCLA now in the Big Ten along with Ohio State it was likely a matter of time until the event ceased or until at least one replacement was made.

The change came about because UCLA backed out in mid-April, doing so because Bruins coach Mick Cronin wasn't comfortable with an East Coast trip at the tail end of nonconference play, sources told CBS Sports. Cronin was consistently vocal last season with his frustrations over (unavoidable) travel discrepancies with UCLA being a Big Ten member. 

The 2025 matchup will take place in Atlanta's State Farm Arena with Kentucky facing St. John's and Ohio State taking on UNC. The winner of that OSU-UNC game will lead the results for the CBS Sports Classic.
