Bruce Thornton is not only Ohio State's best player. He's also one of the best point guards and overall performers in NCAA basketball this season.
Bart Torvik's overall player efficiency rating (PRPG!) has Thornton ranked SECOND in the country behind Eric Dixon of Villanova and ahead of, well, everyone else - including Cooper Flagg, Johni Broome, and any other name you want to mention.
This is Bruce's junior year and he is not considered to be a legitimate NBA prospect due to his lack of elite size/speed/athleticism. However, there's no question he is an elite college PG.
Broadly, Bruce has 3 options for next year:
- Ride or Die with Ohio State as a 4th year Captain
- Transfer somewhere else where he has a better chance to win a national championship (every single team in the country would roll out the red carpet for him)
- Declare for the pros and play in the G League or Europe if the NBA doesn't work out
I haven't heard ANY rumors at all about what Bruce might do next year. Selfishly, I hope to see him back in the scarlet and gray. But I would totally understand if he chose to go seek his fortunes elsewhere - we haven't given him much of a chance to win.
Either way, I'll be rooting for him. He's an awesome person and a fantastic player.
