So this is the first season where the guys are all Holtmann's guys. We have heard that Holtmann has kind of wanted to build a program like Jay Wright's Villanova teams. And you could see that to some degree before this season.

But you can really see it this season. I watched the Nova game today and it was just overwhelming how similar it felt to watching one of our games this season. The defense, the type of players, the motion and actions on offense, the lack of a 6'10+ guy inside (lol). It really reinforced just what Holtmann is trying to build at OSU.

Some aren't going to like that. We have already heard a lot from those who want something flashier, or bigger, or more old school, etc. And you know what, much like our team does sometimes, Nova struggled a bit today with a not-great Georgetown team. When you have a good program teams are gonna gun for you, and a team like Nova isn't really built on trying to impose a certain will and beat the opponent into submission.

But it does proffer flexibility and adaptability. It makes it easier for you to compete with a wide variety of opponents and within a wide variety of game flows and officiating (very handy come Tournament time) and it makes it harder for other teams to impose their wills on you and beat you into submission. It's proven to be winning basketball.

Thing is, Holtmann hasn't had a roster as talented as Wright's best teams yet. That could be changing soon. I can't wait to see what happens.
