After taking 2 of 3 from Purdue to open up Big Ten play, the Buckeyes went back on the road to face the #24 Nebraska Cornhuskers. While overall this wasn't the greatest of weekends as Ohio State only won 1 game in the 3 game series, considering the opponent, and that the Buckeyes hung tough for a large portion of the games, we shouldn't be too upset.

Game 1 on Friday was probably the most frustrating of the weekend. For the most part, the defense kept the Husker bats in check, as the pitchers combined for 11 K's, but the Buckeye bats were also held in check, only registering 2 hits the whole game as Nebraska got ahead 3-0 in the first three innings and hold on to that lead for the rest of the game. Starting pitcher Landon Beidelshies recorded the loss, dropping him to 3-5.

Game 2 on Saturday was heartbreaking as Ohio State got off to a 2-0 lead off a Josh Stevenson homer in the T3 and a Mitchell Okuley RBI single to score Henry Kaczmar, but a 6-run B5 for Nebraska allowed them to take the lead. Joseph Mershon got an RBI single in the T9 to plate Tyler Pettorini, but by that point, it was too little too late as the Huskers held on for the 7-3 win. Starting pitcher Gavin Bruni recorded the loss, dropping him to 2-1.

Game 3 on Sunday was the bright spot of the weekend, as the Buckeyes led wire-to-wire to avoid the sweep. In the T1, an RBI groundout by Kaczmar to score Isaac Cadena and an RBI double by Okuley to score Matthew Graveline gave the Bucks a 2-0 lead. Ohio State would extend that lead to 5-0 in the T3 off a Kaczmar home run and a 2-RBI single by Mershon to plate Okuley and Pettorini. Nebraska cut the lead to 5-3 by the B4, but Ohio State's defense held firm the rest of the way. Then, down to their last out in the T9, Mitchell Okuley really put the game away for the Buckeyes as he launched a grand slam homer to bring home Pettorini, Graveline, and Kaczmar to stretch the lead to 9-3. Relief pitcher Zach Brown earned the win to bring him up to 2-0.

After the 1-2 weekend, Ohio State dropped to 13-14 (3-3) while Nebraska, along with a midweek loss to Creighton, moved to 22-7 (5-1).

Up Next, Ohio State has a 5 game home stand, playing 15-10 Bowling Green on Tuesday, 17-14 Morehead State on Wednesday, and 16-13 (5-4) Iowa on Friday through Sunday. All five games will be on BTN+
