After the teams finished deadlocked after 65 minutes, the game was official for NCAA purposes and went to 3×3 overtime and then a sudden death shootout to decide the extra Big Ten point. The Buckeyes won the shootout, 1-0 in two rounds, for the B1G point. Nappier, who had five saves in 3×3 overtime, had two saves in the shootout, with Sam McCormick notching the winning goal.

The Buckeyes, now 16-9-4 overall and 9-7-3-1 in Big Ten play, and Nittany Lions (17-9-3, 9-7-3-0 B1G) close the regular season series at 5 p.m. Saturday in Columbus. Script Ohio on Ice will be performed during the second intermission and there will be a meet and greet with select Buckeyes (Nos. 19-72) postgame.
