Pretty crazy report from ON3: in Notre Dame's CFP agreement, they will get an autobid if they're ranked in the top 12. So in this year's scenario, they'd have been in over Miami. How does ND generate this level of special treatment??
If the playoff is expanded to 14 teams and there are more at-large berths added to the field (from seven to nine), Notre Dame is guaranteed a CFP berth if it is ranked No. 13 or better, according to the MOU, per Bevacqua.
The signed MOU only covers 12 or 14-team playoffs.

The level of outrage they're exhibiting this year when they've guaranteed themselves special treatment going forward is wild to me. Why wouldn't every big brand demand a similar guarantee?
