Well, after a couple weeks of little movement, it was a nice weekend of games and great that so many key games were played outside the Buckeyes window.  So happy the Bucks played to their abilities and set things right.  No need to discuss our team in this realm, they are the clear #1.

Having kept up this rankings hobby for many weeks now, I can see how the end of the season does feel different and offers an opportunity to see the entire resume come to fruition and look back at a full 12 game slate for every team without any looking ahead or projecting forward/backward as the season goes on.  There's a sense of totality that wasn't there before.  A bit of reshuffling felt in order and felt right now that we've wrapped the regular season.

Some oddities for sure and other factors/thoughts:

  • Felt alright having UGA & Texas Tech ahead of Oregon for now given that the Ducks won't play next week.
  • The Lane Kiffin thing is wild.  I kept Ole Miss at 7 and seedings-wise that would make them the close to the edge of hosting a playoff game (7/8 vs 9).  Feels like that's maybe an appropriate spot for them to be "teetering" on right now but this is an entirely unique situation for the committee to assess...interested to see where they have the Rebs now that Lane is gone.  Feels like a lot to overcome but the players are there.  I don't think they'll go far and I even had half a mind to put them behind a 10-2 team but their win at Oklahoma kept me away from that.
  • Oklahoma I expected to fall off but their resume is good, completed, and speaks for itself at this point.
  • I gave Miami a boost that I'd been holding back on.  I really expected them to slip up another time but they've proven the committee right and a solid stretch run finished them out at 10-2.  I think there's a chance both they and ND ultimately get squeezed out of the playoff if conference champ game precedence is at play, but this is another team that I'm interested to see where the committee puts them now that we've got the 12 game resumes for all.
  • If Alabama and BYU are considered "locks" for the playoff regardless of conf champ outcome, we could see a tough bubble when it comes to the final 12.
  • Vandy is just going to end up forgotten in all of this but it's an all-time season for them and a shame there's just so many other SEC teams.  All Vandy did was lose at Alabama and at Texas, but they're probably not even in the discussion.  The way the SEC pecking order shook out they just wound up being mostly inarguably on the back end of it.
  • Texas should not be under serious playoff consideration in my opinion.  Good win against the Aggies, but lost to Florida, got smashed by UGA, could've easily lost to Kentucky, and probably should've lost to Miss St.  Just not a playoff team.
