I haven’t posted for a bit on 11W as I have been taking a little bit of a break after being just so disgusted and disappointed by the entire tcun cheating scandal and the lack of justice that came from it. But, I stumbled upon something tonight and wanted to see if anyone else was aware of this story. I had never heard of it before, but it again underscores the power that Joe Paterno wielded at Penn State, and the length that the university and some in the community (and even the justice system) would go to to protect the image of the university and the football team. This doesn’t really help my disappointment with college football at the moment, but it is a riveting yet incredibly tragic story of a football player and his crimes that could have potentially been prevented
I will add that I have incredible respect and admiration for the one Penn State football player Irv Pankey, who followed his conscience and did what he felt was right in spite of what it potentially could have cost him by reaching out to one of Hodne’s victims, Barbara Sailor, and offering her his support. A follow up program I watched indicated that they reconnected after his wife of 33 years passed, and after some time together, have fallen in love.
