I'm just wondering what's the deal? Aside from his (I think) one year stint as Co - Defensive Coordinator during our 2014 natty run, has he ever done anything successful since? 

He had a dreadful record as HC at Rutgers. I know it wasn't  the greatest of programs, but Greg Schiano had just built it up to some level of respectability.

Then after getting fired he does a DC stint in the NFL for 2 bad franchises with no winning seasons until he lands in South Bend and completely shits the bed, turning around a top 10 D into a dumpster fire. 

Was his success here all due to Luke Fickell? I don't really know more than I see on Wikipedia, but thought I'd ask, since I don't want to be too disparaging and hold no ill will towards him personally.
