ESPN beat writers released their CFP predictions. Most have fallen in line and made OSU #1. There are a couple holdouts though. Bill Connelly has PSU #1, and Max Olsen (formerly of the Athletic) has OSU #3. In addition and unrelated, Heather Dinich penned an article in which she has LSU #1, and OSU #2, Texas #10.
I am not sure what else OSU can do to impress these 3 holdouts who aren't making them #1. If OSU coming off of a National Championship, and subsequently beating the #1 team in the country to start the season isn't enough, then I don't believe they ever will be #1 in their minds. They will probably always find another team to put above them.
Polls come out tomorrow, it'll be interesting to see how many people think like the 3 ESPN personalities mentioned above.
OSU was never #1 last year yet still won the National Championship. I know some of you will say it doesn't matter right now, and we can't argue that, but it does somewhat for recruiting. It means a lot more to recruits when the coaches can say "We are the defending National Champions, and #1 ranked team in the country", then it does if we say we are currently the #3 ranked team in the country, while PSU or LSU are saying they are the current #1 team in the country when recruits visit them.
