Could a mid-tier program (Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin) win a national championship or is making the CFP their collective ceiling?

My opinion: winning a CFP game is absolutely possible—Arizona State almost knocked off Texas—but a national championship would be a bridge too far because their needs to win it all are far greater than their ability to fulfill them.
