Nevada reported this last night and now the athletic is reporting the same thing. The remaining members of the big 12 have not been able to find homes in any other conference and are now looking to add 4 teams to replace Texas/OU. The 4 teams are:

  • Cincinnati-Easiest candidate for them. Opens up a big new market in a new state that is currently really good in football and has been good in basketball. This is a no brainer. UC is a massive state school and with the proper resources could be consistently good in football and basketball.
  • UCF-Similar to UC this is also a no brainer. One of the biggest college in the world and a fairly new college as well. Has been great at football and opens up a new market in Orlando along with a new recruiting footprint.
  • BYU-This one is more interesting as it won’t be as politically popular in liberal administrations. BYU is a historic program with a significant fan base, a good program, and it’s in a big market.
  • Houston-This one is currently considered to be on the fence. Houston is the leader to be the last team invited because it adds a big market in Texas that was owned by Texas/AM. However with the conference already having Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech in the state they may elect to go another route(USF, Boise, or Memphis)

It is believed each team would accept the invite instead of trying to stick with the AAC
