After watching the way he performed today in the all-American game I think Wisconsin can be a contender with him under center. It wasn't just the 5 td passes he had but the throws he made and the reads to make those throws. I understand that its only a 4 man rush and it has to be man to man defense but that's exactly what most if the B1G does on defense. If you combine the usual sound offensive line, strong run game and then add a qb like Mertz that can beat the man to man matchups that come off the run game, its going to be trouble. Maybe the B1G West will get more respectable with the rise of Northwestern, the potential growth of Nebraska and now the possible rebirth of a strong Wisconsin. Back to Mertz. The throws he made today are at a level no Wisconsin qb since Russell Wilson was there. I think he will beat Hornibrook out and lead that team back to relevancy.
