A California Superior Court Judge has found the NCAA’s “show-cause” penalties to violate California state law. This confirms an earlier ruling, by Judge Shaller, from a seven year old lawsuit by former USC assistant football coach Todd McNair. The judge ruled the show-cause penalty is illegal because it constitutes an “unlawful restraint” on McNair’s ability to pursue a lawful profession.
Considering California outlaws non-competes I am not surprised by this.
