Last year two conference champions were left out of the playoffs. Three could be left out if the committee were to select ND and two SEC schools again. The coaches are not in favor of expanding the playoffs for various reasons (hard on student athletes, etc).
So here is one possible solution.
There are 64 schools in the Power 5 conferences. Then you have Notre Dame and a few other decent programs in the remaining FBS conferences. Create 4 super conferences consisting of 20 schools in two 10 school divisions. The 80 schools would be the 64 in the Power 5, plus ND, plus the 15 best remaining FBS schools (how that would be determined, I have no idea). The schools would play the other 9 schools in their division plus 3 "other" games. Division winners would play in CCGs and those winners would be in the 4 team playoff.
The 3 "other" games could be a couple tune up games and maybe a competitive game to better prepare for the games that count.
Tell us what you think. Good idea? Bad idea? Or maybe something entirely different.
