Last week it was Rutgers' Chris Ash, UNC's Larry Fedora, USC's Clay Helton, and Illinois's Lovie Smith with dishonorable mention to Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson and K-State's Bill Snyder.

UNC and USC both won, which turned down the heat on their seats. UNC has Miami and Va Tech next while USC doesn't play another ranked team until the last week when Notre Dame comes to LA.

Rutgers (1-3), Illinois (2-2), Georgia Tech (1-3), and K-State (2-2) all lost. Those coaches occupy this week's hotseat.

  • Chris Ash is in B1G trouble. Rutgers lost big to two OOC teams it was favored to beat (Kansas and Buffalo). Granted, Buffalo looks like it has what it takes to win the MAC but that's no excuse for Rutgers. Rutgers is on track to be dubbed the worst team in the P5 and likely one of the worst in all of the FBS. The problem is that no mater who coaches Rutgers, he's a dead man walking so it's hardly an attractive job for anyone who values job security, which 99% of coaches (and their families) do. They might be able to attract a quality head coach (Schiano, Les Miles) but luring good assistants to New Jersey could be as big a challenge as signing quality recruits. Next up: 3-1 Indiana comes to Piscataway.
  • I also think Lovie's in trouble. The second half meltdown versus Penn State shows how far they've come but also how far they still have to go. He has a young roster but it's hard to win with 265# DTs and 215# DEs. The Illini have a bye this week and then go to Rutgers. The loser will have the worst team in the B1G.
  • Paul Johnson's seat was to be heating up. He's 6-9 over the past two seasons. They're in last place in the easier of the ACC's two divisions. Up next, Tech has winnable games against Bowling Green (1-3) and @ Louisville (2-2). Patience has to be wearing thin in Atlanta.
  • Snyder's on the list because a) he's old (he'll turn 79 on October 7) and b) K-State has five tough games coming up (3-1 Texas, @ 3-1 Baylor, Okie State, @ Oklahoma, @ TCU) and then Kansas. It's time to hang up the cleats.

There are a lot of other coaches whose teams are major disappointments (Scott Frost, Chad Morris, Willie Taggart, Kevin Sumlin, Jonathan Smith) but those coaches are all too new to be axed.

Chip Kelly, though, may already be losing control at 0-3 UCLA. Since the season started, he's lost one QB to injury, had another transfer, and the father of a third go on a Twitter rampage. They have 3-0 Colorado, 3-1 Washington, and 3-0 Cal up next.
