- Chris Ash, 1-2 Rutgers: You can't get your ash whupped 55-14 by Kansas. It's like getting pummeled in a playground fight to the school's second biggest weakling. Next up: 3-0 Buffalo--MAC's best against the B1G's worst.
- Larry Fedora, 0-2 UNC: Tar Heels avoided 0-3 when their game against #18 UCF was cancelled because of Hurricane Florence. They're 3-11 over the past two years. Next up: Pitt, the Miami Hurricanes and Virginia Tech.
- Clay Helton, 1-2 USC: The boo birds are already in full voice in SoCal. Next up: 3-0 Washington State.
- Lovie Smith, 2-1 Illinois: You have to win your home games against Group of 5 schools, no matter how good they are, especially when you're up 12 in the 4th quarter. Next up: 3-0 Penn State.
Dishonorable Mention:
- Paul Johnson, 1-2 Georgia Tech: Ramblin' Wreck is 6-8 over the past two years. Next up. #2 Clemson.
- Bill Snyder, 2-1 Kansas State: Coaches who go 212-111-1 don't get fired but he's 78 and K-State isn't impressing anyone by beating the likes of South Dakota by 3 and USTA. Next up: @ #14 West Viriginia.
Too soon--these first-year coaches aren't impressing anyone but it's far too soon to talk about pulling the plug:
- Scott Frost, 0-2 Nebraska
- Chip Kelly, 0-3 UCLA
- Chad Morris, 1-2 Arkansas
- Jonathan Smith, 1-2 Oregon State
- Kevin Sumlin, 1-2 Arizona
- Willie Taggart, 1-2 FSU
Will we see a mid-season termination?
