Note: This thread is not meant to be political, it is specific to two amendments in the bill. One of them could have a significant impact at Ohio State.
If you have season tickets for Buckeye football, there is a good chance you made a donation to the Presidents Club or the Buckeye Club to gain the opportunity to buy season tickets. Additionally, your donation gives you other perks. Currently, a portion of your original donation is tax deductible. The proposed tax bill would eliminate that tax deduction.
The Buckeye Club is already marketing for 2018 season tickets. A big part of the sale is the opportunity for a tax deduction. That could be gone.
Another amendment would end the tax-exempt status of municipal bonds for professional sports stadiums. Interest income from municipal bonds are typically tax-exempt. Governments could still use municipal bonds, but they would be incurring a higher interest rate to pay interest on those bonds. This would drive up the cost to pay for those stadiums.
