Playing Pickleball. Yes. Pickleball.
I'm in my mid 30s, lots of freak accidents in sports growing up resulting in bone breaks in my hand, arm, and orbital bone but always have been durable as far as muscle or tissue injuries.
However, I still run around like I'm 18 and I knew it would eventually catch up to me. Was waiting to return a serve and I stepped back with my right foot to kind of set my feet and it felt like Phil Mickelson (or Tony Finau or Sharma, pick a golfer I don't care) swung a lob wedge into my calf.
Trip to the ER was useless beyond telling me, you tore your calf. Doesn't appear that I'll need surgery, but I am following up with the orthopedic specialist next week for a better idea.
Has anyone else torn a calf muscle? What are your experiences with the initial injury, surgery/rehab, and recovery?
I'm mostly mad at myself because I got fat and lazy over winter and was late getting back into the swing of things and then didn't stretch (it's fucking pickleball) or wear compression sleeves on my calves like usual.
