Esteemed 11w commentariat, do any of you have experience with fitness watches (be it Garmin, Fitbit, Apple Watch, Gear Fit, etc)? Specifically, does anyone have any experience with the Samsung Gear Fit 2?
I have never been a fan of wearables and especially not that into smart watches but I find myself drawn to the Gear Fit 2.
Specifically, I am looking to add heart rate to my information on bike rides to pair it with cadence to give me a better idea of how I am performing on any given ride and if I am making gains in performance over time. Instead of buying a chest strap heart rate monitor (extremely accurate) that I only use on rides I thought it might be beneficial to have a wearable fitness monitor to see how I am doing during non-riding activity and life.
The Gear Fit 2 is a newer release that has GPS on board and optical heart rate monitoring. The big reasons I am drawn to it is obviously the awesome looks but mostly that I am a samsung user and would enjoy some of the quasi-smart watch features it has. The reason I am not jumping on it is that it only measures resting Heart Rate every 10 minutes and is not accurate for Heart Rate during heavy activities, the chief reason I want it in the first place.
FitBit recently released their Charge 2 follow up to their most popular wearable, the Charge and Charge HR. It too has optical heart monitoring but is continuous and is supposed to much more accurate, although still not as accurate as a chest strap.
The FitBit app is supposed to be worlds better than S Health, which isn't surprising because S Health blows. It also has longer battery life, still has some phone notifications, and plays well with Map My Ride and other 3rd party apps.
Overall, what is everyone's experience with fitness wearables? Is there one that you definitely recommend? Any drawbacks to them? I am in the sub-$200 price point because anything more than that I might as well trade in the Samsung for an Iphone and Apple Watch. Appreciate the input!
