The Future Mrs. Nappy and I got engaged a couple weeks ago and began looking into wedding venues, caterers, photographers, DJ's, linens, invitations, the list goes on and on.  Needless to say the expenses add up quite quickly.  So much so that even on the lower end we'd be looking at $10k-$12k.  Neither one of us has any desire to drop that kind of coin for a one day celebration.  Now we could try to go cheaper, but I don't want a cheap and tacky ceremony/reception.  

Because of that we started looking into a destination wedding.  We had already been discussing with several friends about taking a group vacation next Feb/March to Mexico.  The downside is not everyone we would like to have in attendance for our wedding will be able to make the trip.  But when you weigh the pros and cons, the destination wedding (not including flight and hotel) is only like $2k whereas doing everything locally, even at the very cheapest would be about $7k - $8k.  

So any advise, Dubsters?  Have you held or attended a destination wedding?  Any advice, tips, recommendations, horror stories?
