I stumbled across some play diagrams that Knute Rockne was running back in the mid-1920's.

When teams break out a bizarre formation that we have never seen before, we think that they are doing something innovative. In reality there is nothing conceptually that hasn't been run before.

Rockne, was lining guys up all over the field making different players eligible for a pass, options for the center to snap to different players, spreading things out, and running multiple run/pass options.

Notice the second play down from the top right? That is basically the "Emory & Henry" play Steve Spurrier and Chip Kelly brought back a couple years ago. The Cincinnati Bengals actually ran this play in the game last night.

Anyway, some of you may not care, but I thought it was interesting so I decided to share it with you all.
