This is new news. I've been to some games not at the Shoe where they implement this already. In fact, I've seen branded clear bags for this reason only.

OSU spokesman Jerry Emig said the ban on traditional bags, backpacks, and purses is similar to the National Football League's policy. Only clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC 14" x 14" bags will be permitted.
The university said their goal is to "provide a safe environment for all those in attendance at the game."
TL:DR Bring clear bags to the Shoe or don't bring a bag at all!
