Today marks the 40th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior. At the time, the ship was the biggest to have steamed on the Great Lakes. Edmund went down with the loss of all 29 crew members. The event later spawned a popular ballad by Gordon Lightfoot.

For this older Buckeye fan, the memory of that tragedy is still fresh.
