We'll see a ton of articles this week about the situation and many will charge that JT got off easy and deserves a bigger punishment, and the bigger media trolls will tie it to Florida Gators issues. Purpose is to try and guilt Coach Meyer into a larger punishment in the hopes OSU will lose. It has already started a bit. Op-ed in Dispatch yesterday said suspension was too lenient.
I think any punishment should be left up to Coach Meyer.
I am confused about the announced one game suspension though. I understand Coach Meyer may increase it to more than one game (publicly announced or not), but at this point Gene Smith said the suspension was one game.
The OSU alcohol/drug guide for student-athletes says that a first alcohol incident represents a one game suspension; however, if you're under 21, it is treated as a 2nd incident, which is a mandatory two game suspension. But Gene said because it was a misdemeanor, it was reduced to one game. But most OVI/DUIs are misdemeanors. Felony OVI is a multi-time repeat offender.
Seems a lot of conflicting info. I trust that Coach will dole out a fair punishment and don't really care if anyone thinks Barrett got off easy, but Gene's announcement doesn't seem clear.
