It's really hard to write a meltdown thread the Monday after a bye week. The Buckeyes didn't play. The Buckeyes didn't lose. Let's all gather 'round and sing kumbaya.
Hang on .. I've got a call coming in. Excuse me.
Uh huh. Yea. I see. Ok. Bye.

It looks like trouble is afoot near the Bye Week. Before saying too much, let's investigate.
Now Ohio State is saying its school drug and alcohol policy doesn't apply to a DUI breathalyzer test? Good Lord, Urban gonna Urban.

Wut. Hang on ... let's look somewhere else.
Report the news as you should, but leave the sanctimonious moral posturing about a kid you don't know out of it. It's easy to see through.

Hmmmm ..
In case you're just waking, J.T. Barrett arrested for OVI early Saturday. https://t.co/iHbptpOBiW pic.twitter.com/uhR4bRrXk0

CPD sources said Barrett blew just over Ohio's legal limit of 0.08 and was cooperative. Picked up by Cardale Jones.

Ohio State has suspended J.T. Barrett for next Saturday's game against Minnesota for OVI charge. https://t.co/iHbptpwZUm

Welp. There it is.
I'm sure no one feels worse about this than J.T. Barrett, but I suspect Urban wasn't too happy either. If you listened to Urban's interviews on his book tour last week you heard him compare Barrett's leadership to Tim Tebow's leadership on multiple occasions. I'm betting Urbs wasn't counting on having to deal with an OVI a couple days later.

Ban them indeed.
This topic has been covered from just about every angle. However, there's one perspective that I haven't seen covered (apologies if I missed it), so here goes:
The 2015 Ohio State Buckeyes roster is full of talented players, but, let's be honest, some players are more important than others. Some players (J.T. Barrett included) figure more prominently in deciding the outcome of upcoming games than others. My sense is that much of the team believes J.T. Barrett gives them the best chance to win big games against top competition right now.
I bring this up because in my sports experience (high school baseball) I was never better than an average player. I was lucky to make the team and get to play .... stardom wasn't in the cards for me. There were a couple players on our team that were great and we weren't nearly the same team without them. Was it frustrating to watch them goof around during offseason workouts? Yes. Was it frustrating to watch them blow off school responsibilities? Yes. Was it frustrating to watch them secretly taking drugs/drinking on weekends, even game weekends? Yes. Did I still want them to play? Yes - because we wouldn't be nearly as good without them - and I wanted to be good.
I suspect the Ohio State Buckeye football team isn't much different. The other guys on the team want to win and it appears right now that J.T. Barrett gives them the best opportunity. That puts Urban in a tough spot. If he wants to be harsh on J.T. Barrett and teach him a life lesson (which he may deserve), doesn't that harm the other guys on the team that had nothing to do with Saturday morning's incident? If he's too lenient then he comes off as letting the inmates run the asylum. I think 1 game is just about right for a first offense where no one was injured.
For the record, I think driving under the influence is abhorrent. I've had a close family friend killed by a drunk driver and saw a family member's life altered by drunk driving. It's no joke and should be taken seriously. I hope J.T. learns from this - and I suspect that he will.
Now, on to more lighthearted news ....
Anyone see Minnesota hand TTUN a game on a silver platter Saturday night?
Anyone see the officiating at the Miami - Duke game?
Anyone see Notre Dame sneak out of Philly with a narrow victory?
Anyone see Earle jinx the shit out of the Browns yesterday?
In summary:

Finally, before signing off, for all your front running Cowboy fans (Oyster and Gumar included), I remind you that your team has the same number of wins as the Cleveland Browns:

TL; DR: Bye Weeks suck; Halloween weekend football sucked; Earle doesn't understand jinxes.
