Tom Herman is headed to the NFL.

The Chicago Bears announced Monday that they have hired the former Texas head coach and Ohio State offensive coordinator as an offensive analyst and special projects coach.

Herman's move to the NFL, where he has never previously coached, comes after he was fired by Texas in January.

While Herman was the architect behind the offense that led Ohio State to a national championship in 2014 and was a rising star in the industry (after two years as Houston's head coach) when he arrived at Texas, his four years with the Longhorns fell short of expectations – they had just one 10-win season – and he was replaced by Steve Sarkisian.

Going to the Bears could be an opportunity for Herman to rehabilitate his image and put himself back in the running for potential head coach or offensive coordinator openings next offseason.
