Much has been (rightfully) made of Brady Hoke's inexplicable decision to keep a wobbly and confused Shane Morris in the game on Saturday. It's not the first time Hoke's vigilance around player safety has been questioned:

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State reprimanded two coaches after a football player suffered frostbite during a disciplinary workout in subzero temperatures.

Ball State's athletic director issued letters of reprimand to head coach Brady Hoke and football strength and conditioning coach Aaron Wellman after the workout, associate athletics director Joe Hernandez said Friday.

Redshirt freshman receiver Chris Jackson suffered frostbite to several fingers during the 40-minute workout Jan. 31, Hernandez said. Jackson recovered following medical treatment and has returned to workouts.

That happened ten years ago.

Earlier this year when the pace of play was being discussed, Hoke came out in favor of slowing down how football is played and cited safety as the reason:

"If a kid's playing 93 plays a game, 70 plays a game and he's rotating, that's a lot of wear and tear on their body," he said. "We've got head trauma issues in football, and we're not the only sport that does, you all know that.

It's all about safety, except when it isn't.
