Thursday Skull Session

What it do, Buckeye fans? I apologize in advance if I'm inadvertently addding too many letters in some worrds.

After taking advantagge of the $11 bones for 11 Warriors, my hands are as stickky as a 13 year old kid's after finding daddy's skinn stash. Please tell me you plan to capitalize on this gift from the heavens and get your rack-on.

Of course, whenever I think of racks, I think of beer and in an attempt to perform the clunkiest segue in 11W history, I'll note that you can partner those 11 bones with beer if you take them down to campus on gameday as Hineygate has finally been reborn and relocated

Oh, and you can't call it Hineygate anymore since 610 WTVN owns the name and isn't involved in the new version. Instead, WLVQ (QFM96) will be the chief sponsor, the event will likely be called the Crank It Up Party (whuh?) and will now be held next to and behind the Varsity Club.

That's about it for changes though, as the organizers don't plan to run the new event any different, right down to making allowing you to jam to the Danger Brothers as you squeeze in as many sins as possible before kickoff.

With your gameday plans now secure (the 11 bones part, I mean), let's see what's what in your almost Friday skull session...

The kids are all right. The Buckeye freshmen footballers met briefly with the media yesterday and it's an impressive group of young men. Many were sporting "JT" wristbands and had great things to say about the head coach to which they committed, new guy Luke Fickell, and whether the drama surrounding the program threatened to compromise their decision.

DL Michael Bennett offerred:

“From the time I committed and then everything going down, I don’t really ever remember a point where I was like, ‘Maybe I made a wrong decision,’ because there is a lot more to Ohio State than a coach or that one mistake can erase. I never thought for a second about reconsidering. Being here with my teammates and the coaches has made it more concrete. It doesn’t feel like we’ve lost a step at all. Everyone just feels like we’re 100 percent, maybe even going harder.”

TE Jeff Heuerman stole the show however, lobbing this beaut:

“I kind of got to be under Tress for a little while for spring ball, but I think ‘Fick’s’ going to be great. He’s a hard-nosed guy, and we’re going to kick some people’s asses, I’ll tell you that much. Tress was a great guy, and an awesome coach, but I really like ‘Fick’, too. It doesn’t really affect me very much. We’re going to have fun either way. We’re going to win either way. We’re Ohio State.

Braxton Miller also shared some good news besides the fact he's gained 15 lbs:

"Right now I feel a little more pressure than I did six months ago but I am trying to take it day by day. I really want to work on the passing plays because I have the running plays down pat."

Sounds good to me. That gives him all camp to get comfortable with a slimmed down version of the passing playbook in prep for, at the least, his own package to use in the opening weeks as he efforts to earn the starting gig fulltime in time for the trip to Coral Gables.

Speaking of Coral Gables. After learning Monday that Miami offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson needed back surgery with an unknown timetable for return, updated reports project the injury as serious enough that it could wipe out his entire 2011 season.

It's not clear if the injury was sustained carrying his father's dreams of hip hop superstardom but what is clear is he's been hurting since at least spring ball. CFT cites a source close to the family suggesting that save an unexpected twist, Henderson "will be held out for the entire 2011 season."

Either way, it's crystal clear that the big man will not be lining up at tackle against OSU which is a shame as I was hoping to watch Simon and Williams eat his lunch.

Redshirt frosh Malcolm Bunche, a 6'7", 320 lb behemoth, is said to have won the left tackle spot coming out of spring but he has yet to play a snap of college ball.

Wine goggles?Swisher: Unquestionably one of OSU's finest

Nick Swisher is a boss. Buckeye Nick Swisher is at it again.

Following up his recent sizeable donation paving the way for the installation of AstroTurf GameDay Grass at Bill Davis Stadium, the two-time All-Big Ten selection is again showing love for the scarlet and gray.

Beyond that, the man already known for his genorisity and genuine awesomeness, is showing off his pipes to raise money for sick kids.  Here's a snippet from the press release:

World Series Champion and Major League Baseball All-Star Nick Swisher of the New York Yankees will be adding one more credit to his professional resume – recording artist. On August 9th, Swisher will release his first full-length, twelve song kids CD entitled “Believe” through digital outlets. A portion of the proceeds will be going to Swish’s Wishes, Nick’s charitable foundation which is dedicated to enriching lives and lifting the spirits of children who are facing vital health issues.

Joining Nick on vocals are kids from the School of Rock and Bud Selig's granddaughter. That's pretty good stuff. The cherry on top? Amidst the 12 track recording, song 10 is none other than Hang On, Sloopy as Swish gives love to his alma mater.

'Cocks of a feather. South Carolina announced yesterday they have reinstated both QB coach G.A. Mangus and starting QB Stephen Garcia following alcohol related incidents, just in time for the opening of fall camp. So far, it's only rumor these two celebrated by shotgunning a 12 of PBR before taking a leak on some bikes chained to a nearby palmetto.

Mangus will feel the sting of his troubles as the school docked him a month's play, equal to just over $14.5k. That's a costly piss, ladies and gentlemen. And that's not all. Mangus is also ineligible for any pay increases or bonuses for one year and finds himself on probation for the length of his contract.

In all seriousness, good luck to both of these guys as they try to toe the line when it comes to properly handling the barley soda.

Herbie on Tressel. I know we've piled on Herbstreit around these parts - and for good reason - but I liked what he had to say about Tressel during a recent interview with The Oklahoman:

I think it's unfortunate the way it ended. I think that eventually he will have to come out and address these issues. I think a lot of it snowballed. I think the facts and what's fiction to me seem to be blurred. I don't even know myself what's true and what's not true of all these allegations. For people who know Jim Tressel and speaking for myself, how I view him has not changed and won't change. I still think he's a good man. I still think he was an outstanding coach. I still think he's a guy if my kids ever had a chance to play for, I would be honored. I think he got beat up and I think a lot of it was unfair.

I don't know that I think JT will eventually have to address the issues in public but I do believe Herbstreit when he says he'd be honored to have his kids play for the man, though I suppose that's easy to say when you know it'll never happen. Okay, we can all go back to crushing him now.

Stuff I found in the couch cushions. Northwestern could possibly play on a purple court. I guess that'd still be better than Oregon...CFT has OSU at #20...Wow! Look at all these people wanting Bauserman to start...A graphical, charticle (?), ridiculously sick breakdown of phish...The preseason football Coaches Poll will be released at 11am ET, Thursday...Sad Hipster...To keep you from totally forgetting about hoops, here's a preseason poll you should like...You know you do it too.
