Speak for yourself, I get the Mondays every day of the week not called "Friday" or "Saturday"

Damn I was hoping to see more from the WRs than six seconds of Devin Smith

unfortunately the offense was on the opposite side of the facility from us. The WR/DB one-on-ones were great but they didn't let us film those

Looks like Underwood, Baldwin, and Boren were getting reps with Elflein and Decker.

Never really realized it but larry johnson just looks like a football coach! Expect great things from the D

John, any impressions of Ash and Johnson as coaches/teachers?

John Brandon's picture

I was really impressed by both their enthusiasm and emphasis on technique

Watching those lineman go through the agility drills with Johnson makes me think about how crazy that D-line can get when they get their bodies working more optimally from an agility stand point, and how to harness all that leg power. Look forward to a lot of offensive lineman being blown up next season.

Is it just me, or does it appear that Cardale's lost weight? Looks more like a QB than he did in the fall.

The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.

I've never had the privilege of attending a spring practice but why are there ref's there - are they there to explain any rule changes and what is allowed and not allowed? Anyone know the answers?

I'd imagine its to have an extra set of eyes on the players. Imagine you were a freshman practicing wouldn't it be beneficial to have refs saying "you'll get called for that in a game" etc.

They had a few short scrimmages that the refs officiated. As far as I could tell that was really the only thing they were there for

Thanks for the info John

Man, watching coach Ash and Coombs working together is pretty cool.  I could see the DB's really excelling this year just because they're position coaches are both so intense and tuned in to every little detail.

Oh man I love football.

John, Please get a new video recorder! Even at 1080p the video is grainy.

I read something about Urban Meyer being impressed with the Secondary and Linebackers along with his hope for a blue collar team.  Did anyone see if the back 7 actually were impressive or is this possibly to placate the fans who were unhappy with the back 7 last year?

John Brandon's picture

Probably a little bit of both. The secondary is legit, they fly to the ball and react quickly - what Meyer calls a "fast trigger." The linebackers still need to improve but Meyer singled out McMillan and Darron Lee as guys that were playing well.

They ran a lot of 4-2-5 defense where Darron Lee played almost like a 5th DB so I'd imagine you see a lot of that this year. The secondary is good though - Bell, Burrows and Powell are all playing well and they return two fairly experienced corners. The defense will be much improved, I'm pretty confident in that, very young though.

I didnt see BOSA in those drills for the D-line! Whats up with that?

Maybe the injury in the Orange Bowl is lingering.
