Yeah, unfortunate that the game ended that way. Looks like he made the play and put it right there for the receiver to make a play. Just barely out of his reach.
the crazy part about your comment is that Hamby is one of my best friends, we grew up together and have been best friends since grade school. he and i actually went to check out the game on friday. he hadnt seen jalin play yet so on the way down i told him he was about to be in for a show. jalin put in some serious work, an unreal talent. back to hamby though, i was actually at the game and sat with his parents that fateful night against texas. i cannnot tell you how pissed off, dissapointed, bummed out he felt about that pass man. i was sleeping on his couch the morning after the game and got woken up by him deep sighing while watching tressels show that morning. he was so mad that he didnt just catch that pass man, words cannot express how pissed off he was about it. he was punching stuff, throwing stuff, etc. i am willing to bet that is the worst day of his life to this point. he was having a good career up to that point and it went downhill from there. hamby is buckeye through and through man, i still feel bad for him to this day.
@Silverbulletincincy, Hamby was my suitemate at Morrill Tower his freshman season, good dude. I remember one time we were playing catch around the main hallway with my football and he bobbled it, caught it, but bobbled it. The game was over and he didnt give me back my football until like the next friggin day, haha. He takes it seriously, I felt for him what happened versus UT. He was my suitmate when he was roomates with Reggie Arden. I was the one who answered the door when Tressel and some coaches came to the dorm room to talk to Reggie after he had gotten his 2nd DUI. Pretty surreal experience. I was waiting in our common area with all my OSU gear for Tress to sign when he came out of Ryan/Reggies suite. He signed my all my stuff but he made sure to give me an earful about keeping his boys out of trouble.
Next time you see Ryan, please tell him Cody said hello and give him my best.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
twice man, that was the worst part about it. it was crazy how the whole stadium was like, yeah, no, yeah, no, ahh. he still has nightmares about it man.
Silverbullet, thanks for the story. Fans can get pretty worked up after a play like Hamby's, and sometimes we forget how much worse it is for the player.
reggie was one crazy dude. he was freakin' jacked man. i wish he would have panned out on the football field. the crazy thing about hamby is the guy has hands the size of a baseball glove and throughout our entire high school career at moeller he might have dropped 1 pass in 4 years. i cant recall him dropping a ball at osu until that game to be honest with you. i will definitely tell him you said hello cody. lets get this 2012 season under way already!
No, not terrible at all. Can you imagine the possibilities with Marshall and Miller? I'm sure Urban/Herman can concoct some magic with those two guys...
322 yards and 3TD's is impressive no matter who you play. My goodness though, to do that against St X wow! Imagine what he's going to do to Winton Woods, Oak Hills, and Princeton(among others on that schedule).
I know everyone is drooling over Marshall with Braxton but think about it, they might be together for only 1 year. Braxton could easily leave after his Junior year.
Think about this, Marshall with JT Barrett! Barrett has a resemblance to a certain Tebowish character in the NFL right now. And Marshall has a Harvinish look to him, not to say they are the same player. Just think that this offense in 3-4 years could have a Tebow/Harvin backfield on this team. Barrett isn't a great QB but he is perfect for the power read. HUGE!!!
I can also see Marshall on a end around and then throwing it deep to Devin Smith or perhaps a streaking Braxton down the sideline! Huh,Huh!!! Gives me reason to want to build a time machine! I think I will go with the Plymouth Prowler for my car, mainly because Deloreans are soooo overused now a days!
@BUCKEYE_IN_SEC_COUNTRY - Look at his running style, dude is an upfield cutter: he's got incredible burst and can change direction on a dime. He's not a "juker" per se like Teddy Ginn was, who could stop and change directions and then hurt you with world-class speed; Jalin can get the ball upfield in a hurry, and punish defenders for trying to arm tackle him. Personally, I don't see how comparing him to the most dangerous running threat in college football can't get you excited, especially when you remember the 170 yards he gashed us for in Ann Arbor last year.
Why would Braxton leave early? Is he going to be a possible 1st or 2nd round pick..highly doubtful. Unless he's the second coming of RG3, he'll just be another 6'1"-6'2" freaky quick athlete in a tricky spread offense that the pros don't really jump for joy for.
Buckeyejason, I think he is a much better passer than what last year showed and we should see a vast improvement this year. Couple that with a possible championship run next year and he could be a 1st or 2nd round pick in the NFL. I know NFL shys away from option QB's, FYI I don't think Braxton will be purely out of shotgun like Tebow was most of the time, but Braxton will show an arm they will want. Even Tebow went 1st round though he shouldn't have. Not to mention that this offense will not be just a tricky spread offense. I can see Braxton being very good at play action even though he might not use it much in this offense. Braxton plays differently than Tebow. He can slide between the line after the snap so much easier than Tebow could.
I just see Braxton possibly going early. Not saying it is definite! It won't hurt when Russell Wilson and RG3 play well. A lot of teams will be looking right in Braxton's way if that happens!
Point of my comment is Marshall with Barrett is an even more appealing backfield. Barrett is going to be good! I can tell how good he is with playing in the power read. The complete backfield 3 years from now could look like Barrett, Marshall and Dunn! Nasty combo that one is.
Here's the question I'll ask with regards to Braxton and leaving early. Will he be a better passer than Troy Smith? I know he's a better runner, but I don't think Troy would of been drafted very high if at all after his Jr Year.
I hope Braxton pass as well as Troy did, but I just don't see him being a 3 and out guy. He could be as good or better than our Heisman winner and still not have a promising draft status after his Jr year.
I tend to think it'll be very surprising to see him take off early, which is a good thing. Plus, I think this team's real chance to win a title will be 2014. Braxton will be a senior, some of these great young play makers will be Jr's and Sophomores so they'll have time in the system. All these great defensive recruits will have a coupole years experience. I think that 2014 season is the year Ohio State will be in BEAST mode.
I'll give you this Squirell..there is a surprising change in unorthodox QB's getting drafted high..I never would have thought Tebow would go in the 1st round or RG3. Times are changing, where before the NFL would only droll over the Andrew Lucks and the Matthew Staffords etc.
It's not impossible to think he could go in the 1st round. I just dont see it happening..nor do I see him leaving early. He has to prove he can make all the throws..he'll have three years to do that.
To think three of our schools greatest QB's of the last decade and all time in Krenzel, Smith, and Pryor didn't sniff the 1st round..even with all the hype and accolades they achieved during their time here.
^Well Alex Smith was taken with the number one overall pick, and Tebow was a first round draft pick. Our two best QBs of the past decade couldn't muster anything better than 3rd and 4th round picks.
Ok well you're sort of excluding half of his QBs to try and prove some point. You don't exclude data so that it better or more aptly defends your point. Meyer's QBs have faired far better than most coaches' QBs have in the NFL, outside of a guy named Pete Carroll.
Leak was an undrafted free agent, and Harris was drafted in the 6th round to answer your question.
Herman wasn't there with Alex Smith in Utah, currently starting for 49ers? At least Urban was. Chris Leak was a 6'0'' QB who could barely hold off Tebow let alone be an NFL QB. At the time, 6'0'' QB's were really taboo. Drew Brees opened up that door again! I have no idea who was the QB in Bowling Green but I wouldn't compare any player at bowling Green 15 years ago to a buckeye QB today! Yes, non of them are Braxton just in the fact he is more like 6'2'' and plays for OSU, not BG. and after 2 more years of being coached by a REAL QB COACH, I believe Braxton has a better chance of going early than any of those previous guys excluding Tebow (because of the whole Tebowmania crap!) Braxton is raw, right now! I am talking about 2 more years from now! Possibly after what could be a NC and Heisman season!
again, original point was that it will be more likely that Marshall develops a relationship with a player recruited the same year as him than the QB who came 2 years prior! They will be spending more seasons around each other and I think could be a dynamic pair!
BTW, LEAK WAS IN FLORIDA BEFORE MEYER GOT THERE! You can't really put Leak on Herman or Meyer.
We all know Tebow and Smith shouldn't have been 1st round picks..if you watch the NFL at least. Smith finally had a decent year last season thanks to Haurbaugh and a super talented team. Tebow, well..every expert in the NFL says he shouldn't be playing QB.
Sorry, currently as is, I think Braxton is as good as both of those and will easily soon be better. Is he better than Troy Smith, we will see. Troy Smith was also 6'0'' tall as well. Teams stay away from those QB's. Braxton will probably be 6'2'' by the time he leaves OSU.
You started the debate Jason. We just replied to you. My point had nothing more than a blip that Braxton can go early. The basis of that was that players are eligible after their junior year. nothing more!
I would be very surprised if Braxton isn't the starting QB in 2014 so I can agree with what you are saying Jason. We need to see what Braxton does this season before we get too wound up about what he'll do in 2013. I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles the first half of the season before really shaping up and playing well in the 2nd half.
It's not the college coashed job to make them good NFL QB's. It is their job to make them top notch college QB's and give them the best look for the NFL. Urban has produced two of the best college QB's during there time and one arguably the best of all time. Job well done. If the NFL teams don't want to use the guys they drafted right it isn't Urbans fault, you can't judge him on that.
Did you really just say that Alex Smith shouldn't have been a first rounder? I mean, in hindsight, Aaron Rodgers was better, but Smith is still a good quarterback who has had some VERY bad luck in the league. I'm pretty sure he had a different offensive coordinator his first six or seven years in the league, and he hasn't ever really had a good offensive weapon until Vernon Davis developed this past year. He's a LOT better than people give him credit for.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
He's a solid QB, I know..I'm a Niners fan. I have watched him every game since he arrived in the league. I'll say it again..HE SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN A FIRST ROUND PICK, let alone the number one player picked in the draft. If you're the number one pick you are expected to be a franchise changing type player, not an average to above average QB. He's not even in the top 20 QB's in the league, hes a "game manager" type that will help you win games if you have a great defense, great coaching, and talent all around.
Andrew Luck is a #1 pick..Cam Newton, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers, hell even Joe Flacco is becoming a top QB in the league. Alex struggled to complete a couple passes in the NFC championship game. He's solid, not someone people would go back and spend a first round pick on again if you look at the body of work during his career.
Jalin will be good...but will he be this good? ;-)

Jalin is a stud and i dont care about anyones pro career. Once they start getting paid you have no idea what you are going to get. There are a lot of college football players I wish we had that didnt do sh-t in the NFL. Ask the only 2 time Heismann winner about his pro career with the Bungles. I can call them that I have had to root for and defend them for 40 years.
Awesome stuff
He got Hamby'd at the end.
holy crap... that is how it ended? Heartbreaking man. but damn, can he scoot
Yeah, unfortunate that the game ended that way. Looks like he made the play and put it right there for the receiver to make a play. Just barely out of his reach.

Hamby didn't make the play but he's still one of our own.......Life goes on god bless him
Hardly home but always reppin
over threw it at the end there, hamby it hit him right in the hands twice.
@Silverbulletincincy, Hamby was my suitemate at Morrill Tower his freshman season, good dude. Trotwood-Madison. Once a Ram, Always a Ram.
well...that was pleasant.
Can't wait to see him play for us!
He's not a terrible QB either.
No, not terrible at all. Can you imagine the possibilities with Marshall and Miller? I'm sure Urban/Herman can concoct some magic with those two guys...
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
He looks so darn relaxed - like he's jogging...yet he blows by everyone. Wow. Sucks he's not in the 2012 class and we have to wait a year for him.
322 yards and 3TD's is impressive no matter who you play. My goodness though, to do that against St X wow! Imagine what he's going to do to Winton Woods, Oak Hills, and Princeton(among others on that schedule).
No, Imagine what he's going to do to MICHIGAIN! think Desmond Howard against us
He lit up X. He makes it look so effortless. He will fit right in to Meyer's system.
Y'all are going to hate me for saying this, but this guy runs like Denard Robinson. I'm so stoked.
@Hodge... ERRONEOUS! ERRONEOUS ON BOTH COUNTS!
I know everyone is drooling over Marshall with Braxton but think about it, they might be together for only 1 year. Braxton could easily leave after his Junior year.

One thing I will say is, Jalin better learn to keep that ball tucked high-and-tight or he's going to be watching from the sidelines.
Another is "Wow!"
