More SEC love.  Two one loss teams in front of them.  Georgia didn't even compete in their loss and Bama loses at home and is still sitting pretty for the national title.

Georgia lost 35-7 to South Carolina. Look at South Carolina's wins this year and explain to me how they're even top twenty. And if they're not top twenty, then Georgia....

The SEC skew is getting more and more drastic (and sketchy).  My prediction is Bama still plays for the title.

Good thing the AP poll has absolutely nothing to do with who plays for the title.

SonOfBuckeye's picture
SonOfBuckeye on 12 Nov 2012 - 8:13am #

Compare the AP to the computer 'polls'.  Alabama and Georgia are 1 spot higher in AP rank, Florida is 4 spots lower, LSU and A&M are both 1 spot lower, and South Carolina is 4 spots lower.  I don't see a drastic tilt in the SEC's favor.

I clicked on it... I regretted it immediately...

Two weeks in a row Florida struggles at home against dismal competition, including a Sun Belt team that might have had a chance in OT were it not for a fluke punt, and they don't budge from the polls. It's just so obnoxious at this point.

There is no way an undefeated Oregon, K State or ND does not play for the title over a one-loss team. No. Way.

To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.

Brutus on 11 Nov 2012 - 4:24pm #

Agreed, but those three teams still have some less-than-gimme games left.  I think ND is most at risk of a loss to USC.  Oregon still has Stanford, OSU, and USC again.  I think K State has clearest path to remain undefeated, with only Texas left. I think at most there will be two undefeateds at the end and I wouldn't be the least surprised if there are none.

They say its because of our strength of schedule. What about when Boisie was undefeated playing garbage teams every week. They were the best team ever. Now we're undefeated but we arent good because the big ten sucks. Youve gotta be kidding me.

You're wrong. This is the exact same thing that was happening to Boise State when they were undefeated.

I'd probably put us 4th instead of 6th, but is this really anything worth getting truly upset about? It's just a bunch of opinions.

Boise was right up there and the media was talking them up like crazy saying they should play for the championship.

So you're saying a team that barely beat Louisiana Lafayette is better than what the Oregon squad has shown? I respect your opinion, but I'm just trying to comprehend why you would have Florida over all of those other teams

Florida has wins over:

Texas A&M @ Kyle Field

LSU @ Tiger Stadium

South Carolina

Those are more quality than Oregon's 3 most quality wins:

@ USC

Fresno State (!!!!!!)

Arizona

At least FSU dropped to 10 because they have one of the weakest schedules this year.  Clemson is the only think keeping their 9-1 respectable at this point.

There is nothing more influential than the media and there is no media outlet more prominent than ESPN. They love them some southern football. I don't buy into all of the conspiracy theories but to think that they don't influence more than a handful of voters is all but delusional.

There is clearly an SEC bias, but it is kinda earned, don't ya think?  The SEC has won 5 legitimate championships in a row - I don't count last years b/c the SEC had to win that.

Everyone that wants the SEC dominance to end needs to root for teams to beat them in the title game.  If no SEC team plays this year, that won't help matters because we'll just hear that it can't be legitimate without an SEC team, and as much as it pains me to say this, that's probably true on a certain level.

I personally don't think the SEC is as far ahead of all other conferences as others in the media believe, but the results on the field need to change before that perception will change.

The SEC is the best conference, but they're not playing another level of football for crying out loud.  There are good teams around the country (outside of the SEC) every year that can be the best team for that year... it isn't an SEC monopoly by any means.  But, we need some SEC loses before that belief becomes acceptable to the mainstream media types.

So, the fact that the polls are giving SEC teams the benefit of the doubt is not surprising and can be defended.  How many of you actually think ND or K State is better than Bama?  I don't.

NoVA Buckeye's picture
NoVA Buckeye on 12 Nov 2012 - 1:37pm #

I think they are better. Alabama is flawed and TAMU and LSU exposed their flaws. Any football team can beat another team if they take advantage of their opponent's weaknesses.

An undefeated OHIO STATE BUCKEYES, led by one of the most historic coaches of his generation, featuring a player the likes of which haven't been seen in Columbus since the days of Heisman winners Hop Cassidy or Les Horvath, and the highest scoring offense they have ever had, can't seem to overcome a mid-tier SEC program like Georgia that got bitchsmacked by South Carolina 35-7, or an Alabama team whose ONE strength this year  (defense) was crushed 20-0 in the first quarter of a 29-24 home loss to a team who is in their first year in the SEC.  And yet both are still in the top-5, and Ohio State is not.

I am appalled, to say the least.  Many of you think Alabama is the best team.  That's fine, you can think whatever you want, but you can't prove that to me on a piece of paper.  The fact that they should have lost to LSU by 9 points (and only won because LSU is not coached by a competent human being), and followed that up the next week by laying an egg at home.  There is no getting over the fact that their two biggest attributes (defense, and some sort of abstraction called "focus") were exposed as fraudulant.

One of these days this shit will end.  Wait, no it won't.  ESPN is going to control the playoff, too.

ESPN is swinging from the SEC so hard its not funny ... I don't know how Georgia is in the Top 5 anyway what have they really done besides getting taken to the woodshed by South Carolina but they are somehow still ranked higher than us smh ...
