hey guys....had the honor to hear Coach Meyer speak recently. He gave a great speech, and was very candid. To put it mildly: he's not happy when people question OSU's integrity & he's not crazy about the media., i.e. with the media headlining reports of violations a fews ago, because it had basically nothing to do with the football team, (but I think we already knew that).
Other things he pointed out: he said the O-Line is the most improved part of the team. The D-Line is the strength. J. Hall & C. Hyde both look good. The DBs have underachieved, given their talent. He said Shazier is up to 227 and is always wanting to learn more, watch film, etc.. But, the thing I remember the most, and its relevant to this story: the fastest guy on the team, according to Coach Meyer is Bradley Roby, who clocked a 4.31 forty recently.
I'm not sure what was wrong with my comment, maybe you should read the commenting policy about being a jerk. All the other things he talked about were mentioned here before and leading up to the spring game-nothing new. Remember the Shazier picture? That was when that news was out. That's all I really have to say about that, this site amazes me with reactions; the Michigan fans who post here are often more mature than the so called "OSU fans". Just an observation, as I move from a daily content poster to a lurker just for Gene's Quickbits.
DON'T BE A JERK
Characteristics of comments left by jerks:
Abusive or hateful comments related to race, gender, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs.
Ad-hominem attacks on another site member
Extremely profane material or disgusting images
"If you knew anything about football..." or "It's obvious you never played the game..."
"FIRST!"
His players continually do stupid things (Mewhort, Stony), so it's valid. We're all Buckeye fans here, there's no need to drink the Kool-Aid. The media gives them a reason almost every week to write things negatively, it's not their fault.
I'm just joking about the "time of the month", relax man. btw - is that "Jerk" definition post for you? It should be something for you to look at :) haha...seriously, though - the media doesn't go after programs who've done worse with the same tenacity that they go after tOSU - I think that's the sentiment. I think people are a little hyper-sensitive after last year, understandably so, which is why there is general overreaction by fans and the media with the Stoney/Mewhort thing. If that would have happened to any other team - I don't think it'd be ESPiN webpage headlines. You're crazy if you think the media is balanced. It's not about reporting --- it's about balance. They were camped out in Columbus last year, desperately turning over every rock, etc. -- and the best they come up with is tat discounts? & some minor benefits? wow. Lame. I get that Coach Tressel made a mistake, too. I get all of that. But, where is the daily briefing about Miami, for example. What went down with that program makes OSU look like Mother Theresa. It's more about that.
Maybe they are not breaking news items, but several were news to me. Moreover, at least they are "news" in the journalistic sense of being substantiated reports, whereas much of the up-to-the-minute recruiting "news" (read: rumors), which some here are wont to obsess over, rarely are.
@ "BuckeyeBrowny1919" - you're welcome. Yes, it was pretty cool. Actually, I did try to summarize it in general, but, there were a lot of things he said "stays in the room", so I'll respect that. But, he was very direct with his opinion on a lot of things, and is already planning his approach on his team's mentality going in to the big game in November.
Hmm, awarding the #1 jersey to someone that has to earn it...sounds a little familiar.
Does #1 mean something to OSU? Herron is the last one I recall who wore it. Did he switch to number 1 once he "earned" it, or is that what he had from the beginning?
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Hail, to my knowledge the #1 jersey doesn't have the same meaning as it does in AA. I think the earning it part comes with wanting to change jersey number. I think he had to earn the right for the change, not earn the #1. I might be wrong, but from what I know that is it.
Doc's right on this one. One of the pieces of Urban's "get rewarded for things you actually earn " philosophy that he actually called out multiple times in interviews was, and I'm paraphrasing "you want to change your number, you better go out and earn it and then we'll see about changing it". It's not the number itself that matters; #1 has no history of being the big playmaker number at OSU. Though i also think later in that same vein Urban said that the lower numbers would be given to the people who were the high performers, whatever color that is in his system. i might be messing that up; it's on this site somewhere I'm sure.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."

I guess this means urban thinks there will be big things from roby. Let's hope he's right!
Congrats to you Mr. Roby! Continue the hard work and never forget what it took to get there!

Maybe his stupid players shouldn't give then reason to question OSUs integrity? Just a thought. None of that is really news since spring.
Is it that time of the month, awww?

Thanks for the share! i would love to hear him speak in a candid situation like this

BUcks - Where did you get to see/hear Urban speak?
it was at an alumni function at the OSU golf club

Love hearing good things about the O and D lines. Out of all the football cliches "you win in the trenches" is one of the most correct.
Great news on Shazier and Roby.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
