Shoutouts on the SVP show, and Now This... Man I love 11W!

Brandon Castel comes off as a tool.. Cool to see this video, 11W is by far the best source for anything involving OSU athletics.

feel like he comes off that way on twitter too

Didn't know Ari was from Scout. Isn't he the dude Tress called out? Bradon was super pissed the day 11W broke this story. I know another 11W reader called Ari out for sounding like an ass, and, well, he kind of did sound ass like -- Making sure to say "early morning" because they were first dammmit. Brandon wins the fashion contest though. Break out a cardigan or tweed next time Chris.

Is Tim May okay? He seems odd, and I really dislike the questions he asks.

Personally speaking, Brandon and Ari have always been very cool toward me and I have nothing but good things to say about both of them. I can appreciate Ari repping for his site just as I was trying to do for 11W. It's a competition in a lot of ways and that said, those guys have always treated with me respect and I make sure to reciprocate.

Tim May was as polite as could be. Off the air, he had nothing but good things to say about the site and was helpful as us TV rookies were getting prepped for the show.

Beau Bishop was also incredibly cool and is very supportive of 11W.

I'm glad to see Chris' parents let him go out on a Saturday night to do this report.  Must be tough leaving the basement for so long.  Just kidding.  I go to O-zone too, but only after being here.  You guys are my first source for OSU info.  I've been a long time subscriber at the Sports Bulletin, but never go to their blogs.

Keep up the good work!

Here are my thoughts on the situation as it seems to be a hot topic here and other places with some people accusing us of ripping off Scout:

  • We absolutely have our own sources. We were the first to break the news that Jim Tressel would hold a press conference, admitting guilt and would possibly face a suspension and we were also the first to break the news that Pryor's Ohio State career was over. We've broken other things, but those two stand out.
  • Shortly after we broke the Tressel presser news, nevadabuck, an insider on Scout's forums accused us of being "hacks" and "out of the loop". Five hours later, Tressel stood next to Gene Smith in the botched presser announcing his two game suspension. To be fair, nevadabuck gets a lot of great information, but he is obviously not infallible and we would never use him as the sole source for something we'd report.
  • On the 17th, nevadabuck did say that essentially Urban to Ohio State was a done deal and he posted this several hours before we went live on Twitter. I do have a Scout membeship, but I hadn't even seen his post on their board prior to making the tweet. I had a busy day at work and then a happy hour after work. At around 9pm CT, I was on a Red Line train coming home from the happy hour when I got a text that served as a second solid source in our eyes and that's when I put the tweet out. I have spoken to Ari, Jeff Svoboda and Marcus Hartman of Scout, even sending them a screenshot of the redacted text message and suggesting they pull up their server logs to confirm that I hadn't been to their site on the 17th before sending out the tweet.

It seems Scout really wants to have things both ways. They want to charge people $99/year for insider information and then they also want the credit for breaking something that only surfaced in their pay forums and not on the front page of their site.

As for Castel, well, he had a pretty rough couple of weeks on Twitter, but thankfully he deleted about 10 tweets, so hopefully he learned something from this.

On a personal level, I will say that I like both Ari and Brandon (and Gerd, Marcus, Jeff, etc.). They're good guys and I think the Urban thing brought out the best and worst in a few of us. I've never met or spoken with nevadabuck, but he's been more than complimentary towards us since he blasted us back in March.

Ultimately, we see some of these site wars (Scout vs Bucknuts being the prime example) as a little over the top and we're out to be Switzerland if we can. It's never fun seeing your name crapped on, though, so I felt it was worth speaking up about this.

What happened with Brandon Castel? A little out of the loop here.

Nice work, Chris.

This made me hunt down your last TV interview (in which Poe Mcknoe, BucksfanXC, and I enjoyed our 15 milliseconds in the "spotlight"), and what's funny is, you make a comment about how you don't blog from your mom's basement.

I have spent more than 100x the amount of time my screenname was on air, talking about it. Easily.

All I know is 11W is, by far, the best site going. Regardless of who breaks the news, I will always come here first.

As far as who had what first, I really dont care.  I know I can come here and get breaking news, good and bad, in a timely manner and I appreciate the effort from all you guys.

As for Chris, it was good to see he shaved for the occassion and it just confirms what I already knew.

He's so Raven.
