PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Fine with this. Team needs to practice football.
Ya Gene Smith has a ton of credibility. Look at that solid track record:
1) In June he said there would be no more violations or suspensions...
2) In the spring he said that Tress would be our coach...
3) He had a meeting with the football team in early October and told them there were no more suspensions...
But yea let's take his word at face value.
Sorry to be bitter but this man has zero credibility. Anyways, with all that said, I still hope that we do go to a bowl game. The underclassmen could use the practice and the seniors could use a nice send off. Plus declining a bowl invite is kind of a big FU to the Big Ten as we would not be contributing anything to the bowl revenue but would be sharing it. (I suppose we could always decline to share in the revenue and maybe that is what we would do if we banned ourselves from a bowl).
I would rather have a new coaching staff settle in and woo recruits than have fifteen days of running Dave.
why not have both? Urban can still be hired next week and begin to recruit (with the help of the current staff or at least those being retained). He can even provide Luke with advice during bowl prep and help break down film, etc. He won't coach the bowl game, but he can sure help in preparation and even go out recruiting while the team is in Florida/Texas/Arizona/Detroit.
Yeah I'm not so sure it's an either or. Last week I discussed that if it was an either or, I would be more on the side of opting for the coaching change with no bowl then crappy bowl and losing recruiting time for the new coach.
If you can hire Urban next week and go to a bowl, that's a win win. You give Urban an extra month of recruiting and get extra practice time. And who better to help prepare for a potential matchup against Florida than Meyer?
I've heard Gator Bowl vs. Florida, or Little Caesar's Bowl vs. Ohio. I wouldn't mind getting to play Florida, but I don't think much good can come out of playing Ohio U in a bowl game.
Playing Florida would be one thing. Good challenge for this team. Maybe we win, maybe we lose, but it would still have a bigtime feel just because of the two programs playing each other. The only bad thing would be repeated references to that bad night in Glendale 5 years ago. We'd gain a little something with a win, and wouldn't lose a whole lot with a loss.
Playing OU is not something I would want to see. Is beating a MAC team in a bowl game really a good way to send the seniors off? Is it really better than staying home and sending the NCAA a message that we are serious about being compliant in the future? We don't really gain anything by beating OU, and if we lose, well, God help us all.
Class of 2010.
I'm hoping that the team gets a chance to go to a bowl game. Personally, I would like to see them play at the Insight Bowl in Tempe so that way I get to see the team play one more time. It's a short enough drive since I'll be back home during that time. Plus, if we end up playing Texas, Baylor, or Texas A&M, I know people who go to all 3 schools so I'd like to see OSU beat them for bragging rights.
It's true... We really are a bunch of nuts!
