Gee Says Boise St., TCU Not Worthy of Title Shot

Cites strength of schedule. As we know, the Prez also favors the "mixed up mystery" of the current BCS System.

Gee needs to consult with JT before opening his mouth to the press about something that is not his specialty. I don't know what would happen if BSU or TCU played us on neutral territory. It would be a good game and I don't doubt their ability to play quality football. I know one thing for sure, they wouldn't have a string of 12-0 seasons if they played in this conference. In that respect Gee is right. If you want an equal reward you need to have an equal task.

I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.

agreed -- I was taken back by what he said -- seemed out of character

Because it's what everyone wants, right?  A bespectacled academic (rocking a bow tie) breaking down the merits of each team's case for the championship game.

I absolutely love Gordon Gee and think he's a fine leader for the university, but in matters like this, he needs to keep his mouth shut.

Gee - for once - is right. It doesn't matter how BSu and TCU would play us. These two teams play the equivalent of a 2-game, regular season schedule (TCU, maybe plays a 3-gamer...maybe). They'd be more rested and less dinged-up, if they played us. It's a helluva lot easier to win.

Neither one of those teams would be so loftily-ranked, after regular season schedules featuring the SEC, B10, Big 12 or Pac 10.

Boise State and TCU are figments of a sports media cabal - led by ESPN (see ESPN's agreement with the Rose Bowl; it underwrites my point and abolishes tradition). Those teams DO NOT belong in the MNC equation. TCU should join the Big 12 and Boise should go independent...or go to a lower division.

Sorry, but we played maybe 3 challenging Big Ten games this year and one of those was a loss.  Throw in Miami if you want, but is that really better than Boise's Virginia Tech?

Boise State has proven PLENTY of times that they can compete with (and beat) AQ conference champions.

The problem is the BCS forces us to come up with reasons why teams aren't undefeated enough to compete for a title.  With a playoff, Boise and TCU would have the chance to prove themselves.  If they don't, no harm done.

Our schedule is pathetic, but yes, it is much harder than Boise's.

Was Cincinnati undefeated enough to play for a title?  Even their schedule last year makes Boise's look easy.

Yes, Cincinnati should have had the chance to play in a PLAYOFF for a title.  There is no legitimate argument to defend an undefeated team not getting a chance to win a championship.  Period.  And the only reason anyone ever tries to come up with one is the BCS.

he's so wrong, we lose money on the bowl system. we'd make money if it were the playoffs, the BCS bowls might bankrupt conferences like the WAC and the MWC, which is why they are trying to add teams. we need a playoff.

A playoff would make all of this talk irrelevant.  And that would be nice.

Well the damned thing about it is that it's the schools that need to make the change. The bowls would be nothing without the schools. I would like the NCAA to say "Everyone has to be in a conference, conferences have to have a championship, conference champs get into a playoff (maybe even some at-large teams too) that's how a championship is determined."

Twitter world blew up with this comment -- Pat Forde sd something about OSU would lose to both

Not only did Forde say TCU/Bosie would beat Ohio State but would do so handily.

I guess barely hanging on vs. SDSU and needing a miracle drive in the 4th to beat a team that lost to James Madison is amazing. And holy shit they both beat powerhouse Oregon State!

Gee's right about Boise and TCU. I'm for playoffs.

Now that someone from Boise is running their mouth everyone will want them to play us in a bowl game.........blah!  Thanks Gee.  I won't spend the money to travel to watch us play Boise if we get stuck with them in our bowl game.

Pat Forde is right- we would lose to both riht now. Our anemic offense against good teams probably does not move the ball against TCU's vaunted defense and Boise St. would simply out-scheme, out-coach, and out execute us on all phases of offense (particularly against our scary bad secondary). Now the prez @ Boise responds to Gee saying he's looked at our schedule the last 2 years and it does not measure up. What Prez Gee failed to realize is that scenarios whereby we play either Boise or TCU in a BCS game still exists. Thanks Prez Gee...here's hoping when you say grace over your 30 lb bird that you pray for discernment and basic intelligence.
