Clemson Fan Responds To Ohio State Fan's Troll Move on Thomas Clemson Statue

December 18, 2013 at 10:40a    by DJ Byrnes
Surprised the southerner responsible for this didn't wilt in the snow.

On Monday, we brought you a tip about an Ohio State fan trolling Clemson's Thomas Clemson statue. This is Clemson's response, hanging a sign on the Brutus statue near Panera and Conrad's on Lane Avenue.

It does, however, beg the question: If Woody Hayes punches like a sissy, why didn't Charlie Bauman come back for a second helping? Checkmate, Clemson idiots.

Regardless: everybody better buckle up, because the game just got more fierce.

I'm actually enjoying this. It's good fun with nothing over the top. I hope it stays this way!

Agreed. I love this cheeky humor going back and forth. I'm glad the pranksters haven't done anything dumb like the guys with Toomer's trees or whoever messed up Clemson's rock at the beginning of the year.

BUCK-I-FAN's picture

it was probably Charlie Bauman himself, he doesn't live far from CBus. he's in Cincy i believe lol

In lieu of a sign, OSU will respond by hanging 50+ on Clemson's defense.

AcrossTheField11's picture

As long as Clemson hangs less than 50 on our defense we will all have a good start to the new year.

Time and change will surely show how firm they friendship... O-HI-O.

Agreed. Celebratory drinking > cathartic drinking

Did anyone else read this as "Catholic drinking?"

Shhhh... Gordon Gee got fired for a similar offense.

Time and change will surely show how firm they friendship... O-HI-O.

Love this. Keep it clean but keep it coming.

I love this. So often bowl games are generic excitement but I actually thing outside of the championship game this one has two teams trying to prove something. A little back and forth between fans is always appreciated in my book.

This is pure comedy gold.  All in good fun!

The Clemson sign on Brutus looks like it was made by a woman. Trust me. I am a sign making expert and that was crafted by some very delicate well-lotioned Clemson-loving female hands.

This is pretty genius. Civil banter is what makes college football fun between fans of opposing schools. My only question is, this is the Brutus statue outside of College Traditions on Lane Ave. Why is the sign on Brutus? There is a Woody statue right next to it, did the photo taker move the sign or what? Just throwing it out there. It would been more funny if it was on the Woody one.

Clemson seems like it has a rather irreverent fan base.  It's kind of refreshing to see the back and forth on the statues.
They're kind of crazy, but in a good way. Who can forget this gem...

Seriously this GIF has everything you look for in a timeless GIF. Complete props to that Clemson bro.

I had the privilege about 10 years ago to attend a Clemson game. It was a fantastic experience. Not nearly the volume that OSU has, but it was still a great time tailgating across the hill. I know the buses thing has been overplayed by ESPN, but it was really cool to experience.
It was a great campus, with really friendly outgoing people who went out of their way to call me a Yankee because of my accent.
LAST, but surely not least, the amazingly beautiful southern belles in their fancy dresses. Luckily I had my shades on!

Right. Sunglasses are a must-have just about anywhere one goes.

Clemson is Kip in that picture.
Wearing orange.
Getting slapped by Napoleon (Ohio State).
Uncle Rico (not shown) best represents M...igan, if Coach Hoke would have put him in in the fourth quarter, they'd have taken state (the B1G championship).

I am not very smart, but I recognize that I am not very smart.

Good for Ohio State and Clemson to get into it like this, all without causing property damage. Interest in a bowl game between two teams with seasons that fell short of rather lofty expectations has picked up accordingly.

That said, Ohio State fans struck the eponymous Clemson statue at the heart of Clemson's campus. Clemson fans couldn't at least get the Thompson statue on the Oval? If they can get to the Woody statue at the WHAC, I'm going to be really impressed.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing.

Clemson fans attacking while there's snow out? I call bs. This was done by a M*chigan fan.

Well if that is the case, who did they get to make the sign for them?

Some people think we’re the hunted.I don’t feel that way at all. We’re the hunter.Everybody wants an angry football team.Everybody wants a team on edge and a hungry team.If you’re a hunter, that usually equates to being hungry.

agreed with everyones thoughts about the enjoyment of this type of banter between the schools. I hope that nothing on the level of poisoning trees or cracking Howards Rock happens. Keep it civil. Itll be interesting to see a Buckeye rebuttal.

The interesting thing about them hanging that sign on TBDBITL Brutus is that there is a Woody Hayes statue literally about 20 feet away from that statue.
Here you can see the statue:

And here you can see where the two are in relationship to each other:

Odd choice to say the least, maybe they felt like a sign on a depiction of Woody himself would be too much?

unknownmusketeer's picture

I bet they tried to hang the sign on the Woody Hayes statue and just got too intimidated. Woody may have "hit like a sissy" that one time, but all future "contact" will be pure fists of fury.

They were obviously afraid of the Woody Brutus!
