Ohio State Fans Pull a Troll Move on Thomas Green Clemson Statue

By Jason Priestas on December 16, 2013 at 8:26a

A tipster sent us these delightful shots of the Thomas Green Clemson statue holding buckeye necklaces and a sign that reads, “Charlie Bauman had it Coming.

Clemson married the daughter of John C. Calhoun, and leveraged that relationship on both the business and political front, amassing quite a bit of coin during posts as Superintendent of Agriculture and later Chargé d’affaires to Belgium. His will called for the establishment of a land-grant institution called "The Clemson Agricultural College of South Carolina." It's unknown whether the will also called for Clemsoning, as some scholars believe that's something Tommy Bowden called for.

Bauman, of course, was the Clemson linebacker that Woody Hayes slugged in the waning moments of the 1978 Gator Bowl, thus ending Hayes' career as the head coach at Ohio State.

Just another reminder that there are Buckeye fans in every neighborhood in America, ready to troll your statues whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Thomas Green Clemson........ or Wilson?

This is just absolutely fantastic...
It would have been better if they had fashioned a big pair of "Woody" glasses to put on the statue.

And when we win the game, we'll buy a keg of boooooooooze!! And we'll drink to old Ohio 'till we wobble in our shoes.

I like the fact that it is clever, timely, and non-destructive.

droessl's picture

the non-destructive is probably my favorite part of this. I love trolling/irritating another fan base, but seeing things like the ivy at Wrigley poisoned, tree getting destroyed at Toomer's corner, or even Howard's rock being vandalized cross the line.

Well played, Clemson-trolling Buckeye fan. Well played, indeed.

Just seems to me that statue was meant to hold that sign.

It was more of a karate chop to the neck, and from what I've seen in the replay, it looked fitting given the circumstances.

This isn't anything bad.  Pretty funny to me:-)

Some people think we’re the hunted.I don’t feel that way at all. We’re the hunter.Everybody wants an angry football team.Everybody wants a team on edge and a hungry team.If you’re a hunter, that usually equates to being hungry.

By the way everyone has been driving lately, I think most of the people around here are too.

Glad to see folks getting in front of the inevitable media rehash of 1978. On my part, I am embracing the hate here too...

I am willing to bet that 90% of the students on campus have no idea what that sign means.

Woody is smiling.

Go Bucks and michigan STILL SUCKS!

Idaho Helga's picture

I'm betting Woody is embarrassed.     Old enough to have been there.   I appreciate the irony, yeh, it's a bit funny but it won't be on Jan 3rd and absolutely it will be on the network feed so down vote all you want but this was a not so good thing.   Quit feeding the anti-Woody troll.
p.s. My grandmother was a  Baumann.  But it might be like "Smith" for germans in Ohio. Very common name, a "tree specialist".   I understand Mr.Bauman is now a resident of Cincy.

Great prank! So classy it's hard to top. (It's too easy to destroy things. Any idiot -- e.g. Harvey Updyke -- can do it.)

BuckeyeAtHeart22's picture

Yeah this is much classier than whatever dueschbag fans of South Carolina or Va Tech or whoever that stole part of their rock.  Yeah, it's a f**kin rock lol.  But only a complete asshole would take that.  This is the way to do it.  It's a sign, it's not permanent, and it's kinda funny.

biggy734's picture

It was actually a Clemson fan who stole part of the rock.

BuckeyeAtHeart22's picture

Wow that's some crazy stuff.  And what a prick!  Freshman kid won't even tell the cops where the piece of the rock he stole is?  Also, if you're gonna commit a felony, wear some sunglasses or something dumbass, am i right?
