The Dubgate Braces for Rain

By Jason Priestas on October 5, 2013 at 6:00a

Big and I mean B1G game tonight.

[Checks weather]

Are you kidding me?

I don't think anyone here believes Northwestern – praise be unto Pat Fitzgerald's name – has the horses to run with Ohio State, but a downpour certainly makes things interesting.

We'll be at GameDay. Rain or shine. Let this be your early open thread.

We can't promise to hate you, Northwestern, but for one day at least, we kind of hope you lose (and then go on to have wonderful careers at McKinsey or Deloitte, or wherever else you people end up).

Yes indeed. This could surely put a damper on both offenses. We'll see how this effects them and who can still manage to pass in the rain(effectively).  Stay focused and get it done Bucks!!

Lets do this Brutus

InHartWeTrust's picture

50%ish chance, and a mix of thunderstorm chances early in the first.  As long as the game isn't delayed, I am fine with it.  I do wish it was dry as it closes our deep gap, and negates our deep threat (biggest assets), but I trust that we will own both lines and find a win in the trenches.
Hold on to that ball boys, and lay some wood to jar the ball loose on D.  Go Bucks!

throttlefinger's picture

Rain or shine, Silver Bullets are going to drop some anvils on NW. Too much talent. Too much Urban.

vitaminB's picture

Will we see some 11W signage?  Perhaps a "Pat Fitzgerald's Flat top is Out of Hounds!"

Boomcat's picture

Well, I checked the radar...and there is no rain in sight. Maybe those guys are seeing something I'm not?

vitaminB's picture

I fucking hate Paul Finebaum.  He just pulled the ESPN tri-fecta.
Downplay the Alabama paying players issue:  Check
Insult the OSU non-conference schedule:  Check
Pick Northwestern to win at home:  Check

oregonianbuckeye's picture

Nothing like insulting tOSU's schedule as Bama plays almighty Georgia State today. Georgia State has had a football program for something like three years. Seriously.

kalabuckzoo's picture

would he really bite the hand that feeds him though?  can't possibly expect anything else from a guy like that.  ignore that crap and look forward to a primetime game tonight:)

vitaminB's picture

If I hear that Ohio State only plays one more ranked team I'm going to lose it.  So does Alabama!  Oregon hasn't played anyone ranked yet, and will only play three ranked teams, same as us, same as Bama.

oregonianbuckeye's picture

Good point. I'm also hoping that Nebraska or some other team has a good two month stretch and is ranked for the B1G Championship Game. That would be helpful.

Idaho Helga's picture

While I hardly ever do it anymore because it's turrible,  I looked at the conversation for today's game on EPSN and found this:
"You can't spell incest without the SEC"

buckeye_heart's picture

With our stable of running backs we have the advantage if it rains.

mmontell's picture

Couldn't agree more.

hetuck's picture

This isn't Hollywood & "All the Right Moves." Kolter isn't going to work magic by putting on white shoes. A sloppy field advantage goes to the team with the better lines and kicking game. Advantage: OSU.

Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

Our running game will be the difference in the rain soaked field

mmontell's picture

I love what Fitzgerald has done with the program and hope to see them do well in every game other than today. Somehow has to be second best in the B1G, why not Northwestern?

Cusbuck's picture

Does Northwestern have grass or field turf?  Opinions on which is better in the rain. Discuss

I'm not saying,  I'm just saying.

Cusbuck's picture

Thank you

I'm not saying,  I'm just saying.

Cusbuck's picture

I have not played on turf either.  I played in the 80"s on the concrete astro turf once, which was horrible, everything else was grass.

I'm not saying,  I'm just saying.

Jabba the Hoke's picture

I've never played on the turf, but I have to imagine its better in rain, no chunks of grass coming up.

Matt M.'s picture

Well, I for one hope we curbstomp them and sleep with their girlfriends after the game, thus turning them into Buckeye fans.
Sorry, too much hat-tipping going on for NW. Something had to be said. Eff them and Gameday, barring Buckeyes who spent the money to make the trip away from the cameras.
"It's all purple here!"
Shove it, Fowler.

Oldschoolbuck's picture

Right on, Matt.
RESPECT your opponent, of course. And Pat Fitz has done a superb job at NW, no doubt (considering how really, really odious they were for most of the past 35 years - one of the teams we'd want to schedule for Homecoming 'cuz it was a lock to win).
That being said, I HATE them on this day with a soul-corroding animus, just as I hated Buffalo, SDSU, Cal, FAMU and, of course, Bucky. It really isn't personal (not even with Wiscy anymore), it's just "bidness"!
BTW, I saw SDSU was hammering Nevada last night. Don't know how (or even IF) that helps us, but they looked pretty good.

Thank you IH8.
Have been battling minor flooding all day here in the 419 area code & didn't get a chance to look up the score.

Best wishes to you and yours, as well as everyone dealing with some mother nature.

Completely agree!!!  I am tired of hearing everybody say how overrated Ohio State is!  It is time to crush some throats and put 70 up today... it is NORTHWESTERN for fuck sake!!!  I want mildcat blood, guts, and teeth left out on that field and if we get a chance, take out their cheerleaders and band members as well!!!

airbuckeye's picture

I agree with most said here but a win tonight for us and then they have Wis the following weekend i can 2 striaght lose's for NW> the question to ask is if they lose the next two games how will that effect them going forward after those 2 lose's.
Will they just fall apart or rally up and win out the rest of the season? Plus to they have TTUN to play later the season or due the get a pass on them this year? Im not sure who TTUN even plays this year because i don't follow that untill game day to see who they are playing that day.

Blue Eyed Buckeye's picture

This is the biggest game of the season until the last week in November.
Despite all the talk of style points or no style points against Wisconsin it wouldn't matter.  Wisconsin was a 1-loss barely-ranked team.  Nothing we did against the #24 team in the country was going to change minds.
Northwestern is a well-thought of team right now ranked #16.  This is a night game, this is a nationally televised game.  This is THE college gameday game.
If we blow out Northwestern with a dominant performance it will be our signature win.  A win was a win against Wisconsin.  But this is the game that Urban should take chances on style points.
This buckeyes team doesn't have a signature win and won't have the chance for another until Nov 30th.  If they want to put themselves into the daily ESPN national title discussion this is their one and only opportunity.
Go Bucks!

Just came in here to say that things needs a seizure warning on it.

Who is this bald headed fuck on ESecPN saying Ohio State would be 5th in the SEC... what a complete douchebag

That's Finebaum. He is a jackass alright

ScarletNGrey01's picture

I remember Finebaum used to have a show on the Sirius College Sports channel.  From time-to-time I'd listen to a minute or two of it.  It was basically an SEC love fest, people would call in and most of the time it would be something like a skit from Saturday Night Live.  I can understand what Boomhauer on King of the Hill is saying better than I could those people.  Kind of comical and pathetic at the same time.  I do respect what Bama has done on the field with their program, and LSU and Florida had a couple of really good seasons, no doubt.  I do think a lot of people down in the southland are really worried about what Urban has the potential to do here in Columbus with all of our resources and fanbase on top of his ability to recruit top talent and speed and coach them up.

The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes

ih8rolltyde's picture

Finebaum is on local sports talk in the afternoons where I live. It is pure comedy gold/ absolutely repugnant/ and a microcosm of what its like being a Buckeye fan in the deep south. Reminds me of my favorite advice: "Never argue with a moron; they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

throttlefinger's picture

Ifs and buts and other bits of sports suppositions are only tolerable when done around those whose opinions you respect. Think that is why many of us love 11W. Opinions without the pomp and jackassity. We all have a genuine love of the game and the Bucks, without any commercial or self-serving interest. I use to think take what these media clowns like Feinbaum, May and Forde say with a grain of salt. Now I just ignore them and spend my time here.  Better conversations. And much better company.

Idaho Helga's picture

Exactly who would be the 4 in front of us?  What a a$$.

Well done.

I understand the real possibility of us going undefeated and still being shut out from the NCG because of SOC, but would the fact of us being 25-0 at that point not garner us any favor with voters to get us in?
I know it's still early, but just wondering how that wouldn't help...

INTLBUCK's picture

Glad I am actually not home right now, otherwise I would have been tempted to watch Gameday like a bug is drawn to a yard zapper.

Who did the Gameday guys pick?

BuckGuy003's picture

To the dismay of all the NW fans they picked the bucks!

Only Corso could pick because Musberger was the guest picker.
