It's been a long, long time since the city of Cincinnati has had something to crow about. So you'll have to excuse WLW for having a little fun here. Besides, what can we even say, really?
Too bad Brian Kelly will be good as gone when the teams do meet in September, 2012. By then the game will have returned to the no-upside contest it's been the last five times the teams have met.

Cincinnati will be nothing again after Kelly.
It drove me nuts last Thursday when Jessie Palmer was waxing poetic about how Ohio State had to have UC on the schedule every season and how it was a game the state deserved.
Kelly wants facilities that the school either can't provide or is slow to get moving on. When he's gone (probably by next season), can Cincinnati sustain any type of regular success?
However, if they're still competing for the five years or so after he leaves, I'd love to play the Bearcats every year. It would be good for football and great for Ohio.
From the Good Shizzy column........Either Phil Steele doesn't watch much Big11Ten action, or the O-Lines in this league really suck.
Probably a little of both.
Kelly has been politically correct about the topic saying that there is no incentive for the Bucks to play UC. Says UC has to show it is a consistant top 20 type team.
It's up to Cincy to prove they're worthy of an annual rivalry game. 120 years of futility followed by two fairly solid years (that would be considered a tad disappointing by most Buckeye fans) is not enough. I'd be twice as supportive of just a home-and-home if Nippert stadium wasn't put to shame by Massillon-Washington's.
It drives me nuts, being a buckeye fan and a cincinnati native, to hear how anti ohio state a radio station within ohio can be
Whatever. They just want you to listen to their station. It's sort of the same tactic Rush Limbaugh uses. (Isn't his show on WLW?)
My bet is that OSU will see UC in '12 without Kelly, but will see Kelly with Illinois in '10.
Impressive. Now do it for 50 years.
That works!
Why do they get so excited? Cinci didn't compete with Va. Tech last year, handing them their first ever BCS win. Don't really see them winning against a top caliber team either. Heck Illinois may shut them up (unlikely).
If I remember correctly he said something about how OSU won't play UC. Funny thing is, we've played 4 times in the past decade. The schedule isn't made every year. You would think UC would be content with being reminded they are second tier 4 times a decade, but i guess not.
Yeah they think two years of good football is enough to proclaim yourself a national power. What they fail to realize is that big time programs do have down years (far and few between in our case) and they still don't get the type of players we get, the facilities we have, and the tradition and fan base we have. It's amazing how they think they are such a great program now. They haven't had a recruiting class in the top 20 the last three years and their situation is just like all the other smaller schools that have experienced some success. Have one good year or two, followed by years of mediocrity. Look at Miami with Roethlisberger, had some good years, I even remember them talking about how they could beat OSU when he was a senior, and look at them now. When you have some good players come through you do have a few good seasons, but mediocre recruiting classes do catch up to you and their class for next year is currently ranked 58th or so by scout based on quality of commitments. The same case with Hawaii a few years ago with Colt Brennan. A few good players and had a great season, but what have they done lately? The same with Utah. The list goes on and on. Yeah they may be better than us this year and congrats to them. But we'll see who's a top 5 team next year and years to come and who begins to fade into memory.
The media down here has gotten ridiculous. The funny thing about that radio clip is that they think they have played anybody. True we can't really say anything and I'm not saying we are any better, but why take shots at us when they have played a middle of the road Pac 10 team, and a USF team that clearly did not deserve a top 25 ranking. Wisky was 5-0 with a much better resume and USF gets a top 25 bid over our Big Ten counterparts. What they fail to realize is that when Pike and Gilyard are gone they will have nothing again and Kelly will be gone before they know it. Let them bask in their glory, and smile knowing that the next two years should (and thats a big should based on Mr. TP) be very special.
strong words from a program that still lives in our shadow and has never beat us haha keep it coming! all i can say is that in 2012 when kelly is no longer there, and we are rolling with all the top recruits we have been bringing in, get ready for a major ass beating and a long trip home back down I71.
Their chili sucks too.
+1 bowl of spaghetti with chili sauce...gross.
I noticed a few OSU fans posting from Cincy, but my experience from spending some time down there (awhile ago) was that it is anything but an OSU town; more of a Notre Dame town than anything, with a sprinkling of U-M and UK fans thrown in for good measure...certainly more than OSU fans. ND makes sense with the number of Catholic schools down there, but I had rarely seen anyone down there even acknowledge OSU.
That's ok, I consider Cincitucky a part of that state across the river anyway.
Good for UC that their football team doesn't suck for the first time in the last 50 years.
blahblahblah history history...this year the bearcats are significantly better. we couldn't slow down purdue's offense much less stop it and UC's offense is more precise then the boilermakers. they'd beat us by at least 14 if not more. tell me how our offense would score against their solid defense?
Don't say WE McNutt, it gives US a bad name when you are attached to our fan base
I don't care what you say bout the Bucks or the Cats but leave the chili out of it!
UC can have their day in the sun. It's kind of like your little brother beating you at something for the first time, it's the best day of his life. UC is the same way. Their fans talked trash about the basketball team and Kenyon Martin and how they were better, then they got Oden'd and lost two years in a row by 20+. The UC fans get upset b/c the networks know that a 6-6 Ohio State team will get more viewers than a 12-0 UC team so they get tOSU shoved down their throats. It's the same thing being a Bengal fan in Columbus, I have to watch Browns and Steelers even though my Bengals are in first place. You get sick of it and now that UC looks good the will make us hear about it.
Kelly will look real good in a Notre Dame sweatshirt! I still say Cincy trips up on one of their cupcake games before the BCS.
I totally disagree about it being not an OSU town. I live on the NKY side of the river, but I played baseball over in Cincy, my wife is a teach for Cincinnati Public schools, and there is a large fan base down here. Sure, there are Notre Dame, UK, and even UC fans, but I still contend there are more Ohio State fans down here than there are UC football fans. 700 WLW and their talking heads all have a boner for UC right now, but who really cares what 700 has to say. I'm actually glad to see UC playing well. Let them keep winning and their fans run their mouths. Wait til the get a date with Alabama, then we'll see how unstoppable their offense is.
Ohio State vs. Cincinnati 13 wins 2 losses. Last loss? 1897.
Does anything else need to be said?
No sir it does not, but let them make their videos
I mean they just got the internet in Kentucky, remember how excited you were?!?!?!
bucknut i can't understand you while you're gurgling tressel's nootz
and way to not reply to my logic by the way capt.internet badass
You don't give us a bad name, McNutt. On the contrary, you actually give us a GOOD name amongst other fanbases that you don't see the world through Scarlet and Gray glasses.
Troll^
What logic? Cinci solid defense? Against who? When did they prove they had a solid defense? Last year against VaTech, how'd that work out for them?
Cincinnati isn't part of Ohio, it thinks its part of Kentucky.
Jerkstore^
two words...big east.
still a Troll^
This miscomplaced sense of supremecy by Cincinnati needs to end. Name one player on Cincinnati's team that would start at Ohio State? End of story.
Apply for the 12th spot in the BigTen and see how you do then.
Heard that one already^
Tony Pike, Aaron Webster, Mardy Gilyard, Jeff Linkenbach and the entire offensive line, , etc, etc!
Get used to it boys, the Bearcats are Nasty! And the Chili tastes Great!
They are nasty in the Big East. Nuff said
personally, i think we should just sell cincinnatti to kentucky. Its really just northern kentucky anyway.
The record books don't reflect it, but I think they last beat us in 2002.
Um ... the 2002 OSU football season was a somewhat noteworthy one.
Ok, I get it. Sarcasm. Never mind.
I notice all the Buckaroo claims to greatness are rooted in the past. You guys sound like Notre Dame fans ... and everyone of you would trade Pryor for Pike in a heartbeat if you could - probably trade Tressel for Kelly too, for that matter.
I notice all the Bearkitty claims to greatness are rooted in an unrealized future. You guys sound like a pampered child being led off to college...and everyone of you would trade your entire LB corps for B Rolle or your entire secondary for Coleman - probably trade Kelly's success for Tressel's too, for that matter.
Basing in the to glory of the past, dire predictions for Cincinnati in the future ... living in the present just isn't something you Buckaroos like to do these days is it?
Hell, I bet they'd sell souls in mass amounts just to get Soloman Thomas on their D-line and he is not even in the 2deep.
I think UC will pass - the Bearcats saw all those guys against Purdue, and I think UC will stick with their own guys who measure themselves by how many ranked opponents they beat - not guys whose claim to greatness is based on the number of Buckeye stickers they got on their helmets for beating Toledo and Navy.
No, not enough said: they're doing it against the 108th-best schedule in the country.
Just in case our special friends from the south get any misconceptions about schedule strength.
Cinci is not, and will never be, equal to Ohio State. Ohio State wins that game on a neutral field 98 out of 100 times. Make fun of Buckeye fans for lauding our storied past all you want... It's that past success that ensures that there is always a large fanbase that will hold their team accountable when it struggles. Cinci will be irrelevant in a year or two, and by that time, you and all of your other bandwaggoning friends will disappear back into the woodwork.
I really do want to cheer for you, being from the same state and all, but when idiots like you trash the, unarguably, best team in the state for the past 100 years, you create enemies instead.
apparently the present is unfamiliar to you as well bc well the bearkitties have accomplished nothing so far.
"best team in the state for the past 100 years"
"Cinci will be irrelevant in a year or two"
Like I said, you bask in the glory of the past, you predict gloom and doom for Cincinati in the future, but you Buckaroos cannot cope with reality - what is right here, right now.
"Cinci is not, and will never be, equal to Ohio State" ... In the minds of you, Jim Tressel, the guy in the Buckeye suit and four drunks over on High Street. Fact is, Cincinnati is clearly better than Ohio State RIGHT NOW - and that is not the opinion of a UC fan - it is the consensus opinion of every knowledgeable, unbiased college football writer and coach in America as reflected in the polls.
When you sqeak by Navy and lose to Purdue, then claim greatness you're only embarrassing yourselves.
enjoy your 1 moment
And this comes from folks who got by Navy on a gift, lost to Purdue and need New Mexico State on their schedule to be bowl eligible.
They ought to create a Has Beens bowl and let Ohio State and Notre Dame play each other every other year, with Michigan and Nebraska playing in the off years.
I will ... while you suffer through yours
Just last year, what was the score of the Uconn vs UC game?
I'm not suffering. We will make a decent bowl game like we do every season. Every season we have something to watch. Unlike finishing say like this:
1996 6 5 0 3rd
1997 8 4 0 4th
1998 2 9 0 7th
1999 3 8 0 9th
2000 7 5 0 2nd
2001 7 5 0 2nd
2002 7 7 1st
2003 5 7 0 9th
2004 7 5 0 2nd
2005 4 7 0 7th
There just isn't any way to get you guys to talk about this season, is there?
Let's see. A loss to Purdue already, you have a good chance of beating Minnesota since you get them at home. Iowa and Penn State can pretty well go into your L column, so it will come down to the Michigan game to see if you make the Gator Bowl or the Insight Bowl.
You're in trouble either way but if I were you I'd be pulling for the Insight Bowl since you really don't want to play the fourth place finisher in the SEC. If you guys thought Purdue and Navy were tough you really don't want to play LSU.
You might want to root for the Bucks to go into the tank against Minnesota, then you can play someone from Conference USA in the Dallas Classic and have an outside chance of breaking your three year bowl losing streak. Wuddya think?
Any way you cut it though, basketball season is starting a good week or so sooner in Columbus than it will in Cincinnati, won't it?
My response to the UC bUCkeye State logo (see website link)
