TEXAS TECH CONTINUES DEFENSE OF SORSBY
The college sports universe has had its eyes on Lubbock, Texas, for the last few weeks.
With the recent decision by a Texas court to grant Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby a temporary injunction against the NCAA, restoring his eligibility in the midst of a gambling investigation in which he admitted to betting on his own team while with Indiana in 2022, the Red Raiders have found themselves in the crosshairs of pretty much every college athletics program around the country.
As it stands, Georgia and Nebraska have taken steps against Texas Tech following this decision, as administrators at both schools informed their coaches that they would not be permitted to schedule games against the Red Raiders across all sports.
Texas Tech has faced harsh (and deserved) criticism from the college athletics community, and the university’s athletics department has maintained that they are only working in the best interest of Sorsby and are supporting him while he addresses his gambling addiction. The university has also tried to distance itself from the lawsuit, which granted Sorsby the injunction against the NCAA.
If you want a full breakdown of Texas Tech’s stance on this situation, check out this brief, 20-minute-long roundtable from the university’s brass, including Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire, athletic director Kirby Hocutt and university president Lawrence Schovanec.
TCU’s response to this video best represents the feelings of everyone outside of Lubbock.

MICHIGAN STATE AD J BATT COULD BE ON THE MOVE
Michigan State could be on the lookout for a new athletic director in the near future.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Spartans AD J Batt has caught the attention of Kentucky, who are making a significant push to bring his services to Lexington. Batt has previous experience in the SEC, serving as Alabama’s chief operating officer and chief revenue officer from 2017 to 2022.
After serving as Georgia Tech’s athletic director from 2022 to 2024, Batt took over at Michigan State with a focus on building up the Spartans’ fundraising capabilities. He helped build Spartan Ventures, which focuses on maximizing revenue within the Michigan State program, and brought former Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald to Michigan State to serve as the Spartans' head football coach.
If Batt decides to bolt to Lexington, Michigan State would look to hire its fourth athletic director since 2021. The university has also had four presidents since 2022, signaling a period of unrest at the school.
