Welcome to Campus Connection, the only place where you'll see coverage of the Ohio State pottery club or chess team throughout the #interwebz.

After spotlighting Morrill Tower last week, it was only right that this week, we took a look at the other monstrosity just outside of Ohio Stadium: Lincoln Tower.

Located on Cannon Drive just feet away from the historic stomping grounds our beloved football team calls home, Lincoln Tower has been around since 1967, when construction was completed.

The tower was named after former United States president Abraham Lincoln, as he was the president who signed the Morrill Act into law. The Morrill Act had states sell public land in order to provide an endowment for a state university. The bill was signed into law by Lincoln in 1862 and made available the initial funds to start The Ohio State University in 1870.

Unlike its counterpart Morrill, Lincoln is unique in that it features many floors of offices before the dorms actually begin. Beginning in 1975, the bottom 14 floors are used as offices for various Ohio State organizations including Student Life Human Resources, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Offices, Student Health Insurance, and many more. The top eight floors are still used for student housing.

Unfortunately for students in Lincoln Tower, they are forced to walk the thousand or so feet to Morrill Tower in order to eat, as Morrill is home to both a Campus Store (where students can redeem Dining Dollars) and a Traditions dining facility.

In Lincoln, each room is in a cluster with three other rooms, termed a 'suite.' Most rooms have two people in each, for a total of eight in the suite. However, some rooms have as many as four each for a total of 16. One unique thing about Lincoln though is that there are seven rooms in the tower that have just one person to a room, for a total of four in the suite.

One thing residents complain about though is the fact that not only are their classes far away, the dining certainly isn't close either.

"Morrill Traditions sucks. I like walking over to north campus to eat even though it is farther just because it is that bad," freshman and Lincoln Resident Josh Rosen said.

Luckily though, it isn't all bad in Lincoln. Not only do the students get air conditioning (thank goodness, right?), they are also close to the university rec center (the rPac) and Ohio Stadium, as well as the Schott.

Anyhow, Lincoln Tower has certainly been one of the staples of Ohio State for 50 years and is still going strong.
